Welcome to the Forum from Western New York State! Congratulation on seeking out information before the purchase. A wise decision for sure.

I won't add much to the great information above, other than we bought our Jayco in 2012, and still love it. We are lucky, as we haven't had any major problems (as yet, knock on wood) but have made some mods here and there to make it our own, or rather to keep the DW happy. We maintain it, and it serves us well. Yours will too.

Our forum family has a great wealth of knowledge, and you've joined the friendliest forum on the planet. Happy trails!

@Lam66

I had a 195RB, purchased new in 2019 and just traded in last year for a larger TT. These are all of my build threads, maybe you can use some of the information I shared here over the last few years.

You can certainly make the 195 your own. The 2024 version deleted the front window (no big loss TBH), changed from the cube refrigerator to a larger one at the cost of the former pantry. I see that Jayco added Lippert stairs (nice!) and the interior is much brighter now. I assume you could use the new kitchen cabinet space for your food storage though.

Towed my 195RB to multiple states. Never had a problem with it. I liked it for what it was, a lightweight, easy to tow TT that fit in small spaces.

Cons: Typical RV quality. I had to encase all wiring in split loom tubing, clean up the rats nests of wiring in the front J-Box and behind the circuit WFCO panel. (To be fair, that wouldn't have been necessary if the panel had supported LiPo batteries, which it didn't in 2019) The bed platform was weak and needed reinforcement. I didn't like not having a medicine cabinet or a sink in the bathroom.

I never had a leak or a failure, the trailer was decent and I liked it for my first trailer. LMK if you'd like me to answer anything about my time with my 195RB.

The best advice I could have given someone thinking about buying a 195 last year would have been to get MRKABC's.

Unfortunately, only one lucky duck got that one.
Next best would be to read through his posts about what he did to his.

Thank you all for the information. Its been a really big help, so much so that I went and bought a 2021 195RB with the upgraded fiberglass exterior walls and the Baja package. You all convinced me this was a good choice and I couldn't pass up this deal. I couldn't find any used units with the fiberglass ext walls in the Baja edition on nationwide searches.
2021 Jay Flight SLX 195RB Baja Edition
Fiberglass exterior walls
Dual propane tanks
Dual 6v golf cart deep cycle batteries
Power jack
Bed strut mod completed
Bed platform mod completed
Bathroom vent fan mod completed
Digital thermostat
Upgraded shower head
Upgraded shower curtain bow rod
Includes all hoses with pressure regulator
New cover still in the box
Blue Ox TrackPro weight dist. sway control hitch included
Lots of little extras
$16,750
Being a newbie and not knowing what I don't know, this seemed like a helluva deal. I could find anything wrong after crawling over, in, and under every square inch.
Its only been slept in 3 times with only 1 time on the brand new upgraded mattress. The Goodyear tires still have the tire hairs!
I know I said I was going to wait until the fall of this year but life is short and I'll figure it out along the way!
Again, apologies for hijacking this thread. I will be deleting my original post but will be saving all your contact info so I can reach out when I have questions and I will, I'm sure.

Thanks again!

I never did get a response when I sought assistance moving this to it's own thread.

We don't consider your posts as an actual hijacking....really. Some posts evolve as they go along, and folks sometimes drift off the original question or topic, which is usually not a big deal. I did notice your thought to move it but didn't deem it a necessity as it's about the same model.

We're happy you found such a great trailer. It sounds like it's in awesome shape.

Why delete your old post? No apologies necessary, is all good.

Quick question - how big is your water tank? Baja used to come with 30 gallon, and the regular version with 20 gallon tank. One of my first mods was to dump my 20 gallon for the larger Baja version - it was drop in.

Congratulations on your new 195!!! You're going to have a good time with it. Make sure to attach pix here, I wanna see!

I was going to delete it so the original thread stayed on topic, I think it upset another member that I posted in this thread with a different topic. Honest mistake as this is my first time joining a forum. Didn't mean to cause any wrinkles, just thought the guys that work on their own rigs would have the best experienced knowledge.
I believe this has the 20 gallon fresh water tank. The seller didn't mention that when discussing the upgrades. Honestly though, this unit doesn't seem to have a lot of capacity for cargo so I think I'll need to figure out the best weight/balance options. I think one of the first things I look at is going to be the sturdiness of the black tank mounting. I plan on a lot of desert camping and I don't want that falling out on bumpy dirt roads.

If your 195RB is a Baja edition, it will say Baja on the side. It should have a flipped axle, 16" off road tires, 30lb propane tank, 30 gal fresh and 20 gal black and grey tanks. The underside will be covered so you won't be able to see the waste tanks without cutting the cover.

Your fresh water tank is under the bed and should be marked on top with the capacity, otherwise just measure it and calculate the volume.

It's definitely a Baja edition rig. Just unsure the size of the water tank. I didn't look at the tank that closely and the online specs say 20 gal. for the 2021 195RB Baja edition. Will have to inspect further.....

@Fistep:

Baja edition does have the 30 lb propane tank, flipped axle, beefier tires, badging, etc. Not sure about the bigger water tank for newer Bajas though. Documentation now says 20 gallon.

@LAM66 I have got you covered! Here is the 20 gallon v. OEM Jayco Baja 30 gallon water tanks, including the measurements, comparison, and SKU. Very easy mod to do and it fits like a glove - no loss of space!

In the 195RB the black/gray tanks are NOT covered by anything at all. The bottom of the coach is covered with Darco fabric, and the waste tanks are bolted underneath, not covered by the Darco. There is no Coroplast cover for this model (at least the RBW "West" version, I don't know about East Coast models)

20 gallons each - supported by metal straps. I didn't have much concern that I would lose the tank(s) in my desert trips.

More pix - black/gray tanks, and the 30 gallon fresh during my See Level installation.

Hope this helps!

For the record.....
I don't even have my rig yet, still waiting on the financing. Hoping to pick it up this week!
The entire underside of mine is covered with that plastic cardboard, I'd have to remove some of it to get to the black tank. Which I was going to do to inspect the reliability of the original installation. Good to know though that they did some kind of reinforcement.
As for the fresh water tank, do you find 20 gal is not enough? Is the extra weight from an extra 10 gal of water worth it? I know, depends on how you camp but I was thinking 20 would be just enough.
Another off topic question although still related to the 195RB since that's what I'll be owning here in a few days. Gas generator or solar generator? I purchased an Ecoflow Delta Pro Lithium Solar generator (battery) for home emergency use. For the money i could spend on a generator I could spend on a 400w 4 panel solar array from Ecoflow to partner with that Delta Pro. I know this is a general question about power but for those that own or have owned a 195RB would know what the power draw would be. Again, I know it depends on what you're using like the ac unit. So I was just curious what other 195RB owners experienced in power draw. My unit has two golf cart batteries in series so hopefully between those and the Delta Pro, I wouldn't have to listen to generator noise. My only issue with this would be the fact that I couldn't connect the panels to both battery systems to recharge simultaneously. I will repost something very similar to this in a better thread but ideally want to hear from the 195RB owners.

(Already own) - https://www.ecoflow.com/us/delta-pro...-power-station
(Considering) - https://www.ecoflow.com/us/400w-solar-panel

In your enviromnemt solar I would think would be the way to go. We used to have a 195 RB and it went to Death Valley and Alaska and the Yukon and yes the infamous Chaco Canyon road
We never lost a tank or had one loosen. We use a generator ( and its quiet and not run at night) as we are in a rainy environment.

If you think like a backpacker you can prewipe dishes and do navy showers and keep your water use to five gallons a day. that is if you don't shower every day. I don't remember the capacity of our FW tank on the 2016 but it could have been 30

I have 200 watts of solar and 100 amp lithium from Renogy. My last real use was for several days in Great Sand Dunes. Snow and freezing at night but sunny warm daytime. Only 12 volt use was pump, lights and furnace and we never dropped below 50% charge. We keep our battery under the bed next to the MPPT. Just pulled the wires from the tongue up through a hole I bored in the floor and connect to the battery for simplicity.

I would increase my battery or solar based on your power needs with plenty of room on roof. I routed my roof inlet via the bed top cabinet and then down the wall and into the under bed area to connect to mppt. As Renogy has bluetooth on the battery and mppt I only need to get to it for end of season shutdown.

Hope this helps, ask more if you need it.
