Jayco QC - Is it Lacking?

Our Eagle was for all practical purposes trouble free throughout the warranty period and continues to be after three years, about 10,000 miles, with about a hundred of them on our terrible road to the highway.

Is it my imagination, or are Jayco buyers having far more complaints the last two or three model years? I may be replacing ours with something more suited to half year occupancy, and so I have reason to be wondering. We're looking at a couple of other manufacturers' units, but they are quite a bit more expensive.

I just purchased my second unit and while I had a few more warranty issues than the first they were all very manageable issues and fixed to my standards. One thing I think we need to remember is that there was a lull in sales over the last 4 years as a result of the economy and now that it is stronger new unit sales are up. More sales = more units on the same lines which will result in pressure to put units to completion faster IMHO. So with less time I think some things are being pushed to the dealers for completion. This goes for all brands and not just Jayco.

i have bought 2 new Jayco products one popup and one TT now the popup was perfect with 0 problems had it over a year traded it in for a TT Bought it from (Trailside RV in Kansas City ) and i will never to that again i have had all small problems but the dealer was very hard to deal with and they dont care one bit after you roll off the lot .... i had to replace the lock 3 times ... the sink and a few small ends here and there. i think most of the problem was how the dealer stored the camper for the year it sat on the lot.

Ours was manufactured in January and we bought it off the lot in March so it didn't sit around. We still had a bunch of problems that luckily were small and I was able to fix myself as the dealer is 2 hours away. It seems like buying a new camper is similar to buying a used car. If your not handy expect trips back to the dealer..

x2 ... stuff happens sometimes and you have to look at it as an opportunity to make it better!
I'm on my 5th travel in my life, and I've dealt with most warranty/non-warranty mishaps. Only two trips to the dealer because I already knew it was covered!

We are on our third Jayco product. First two travel trailers no problems whatsoever. The new 2014 33.5RETS had major problems out the gate. It should have never left the factory as the problems were easily identifiable because they flat didn't work. That being said, the dealer nor I located the same problems on a walk through. For example, hot water heater worked on electric, but not on gas. Until we went on our first cold weather trip and needed our furnace, we had not tried it. That required a hole cut in a storage wall to remove the furnace itself to replace a control board. I will say the dealer went out of his way by arranging techs to come to our campground to help with our problems. He also got everything in working order after the first couple of trips and has been an exemplary dealer as far as we are concerned(Team RV, in Albany, Ga.). But yes, I think quality is suffering at the factory but then they probably all are.

To me YES, to many dings scratches loose/missing screws and things like that. No one is watching the quality in assembly. They are being pushed to fast down the line.

I would agree. The screws at the bottom of the blinds are to high or un even. So you look at the blinds and the are on an angel on the bottom or light comes through because it does not slide down under the window. They put the screws to high. This is on at least 4 of them. We had and still have glue all over the sink drains and the bath tub drain. I have tried goo be gone and lots of other stuff. Nothing worked. There were a few others things that we fixed on our own, but you can tell it was done in a rush.

Yup. Bought a 2013 Expedition a year ago this month, and as with the three other Expeditions we've owned, not a single new-car problem. If you look at Jayco's video of final assembly and then look at an automobile assembly line video you'll notice the auto industy is far ahead in using robotics. I think that's at least a partial reason for the quality issues with RVs. A machine is going to put the right nut on the right bolt every time, even if it is Friday afternoon.

TT problems are seldom engineering problems like Autos. No where near as complicated either. Mostly they seem to be sloppy assembly issues by the Amish "craftsman"..

The quality control of the assembly of my trailer was not acceptable to me.

We spent the first 18 months dealing with one quality issue after another. Jayco did fix most problems but they should never have happened in the first place. When we need to buy a different unit it will most likely be something else. We have concluded that if it stays in one place it will last longer so we have left it in Az and bought a smaller trailer for summer time travels.

Even the High Dollar Class A have the same problems as do the lower priced ones.

It seems like the Jayflight line gets very few complaints here, even though it is not the top of the lineup. If you look at other forums of major high production RV owners you will find some complaints in all of them about QC concerns. We get some here too, but not that many. And of course the many members who are pleased may not say so since their unit is performing as expected.
