Jensen stereo system

Greetings all JOF. What a gorgeous Friday morning here in Michigan. Do any of you TT experts know how to get an iPod to work in the TT? In my car, I just connect the USB cable into the port and the other end into the iPod, and it works. In my 19H, however, it doesn't. I believe I have tried every input from the TV (television) and stereo, but I could be wrong. It should be simple. The radio and all the speakers work, the TV/DVD player works, but no iPod. Can anyone help me? Happy Camping, and thanks for any/all input.

There have been a lot of discussions about this in the forums. Here's one link.

Edit: I looked up the Jensen AWM965 that comes in my trailer, and read the specs. Here's the link to the Jensen RV site. It says that the unit only supports WMA, MP3 and JPEG formats. iPods use AAC I believe. Under the specs tab there's one item that says, "iPod Ready: No"

popjim52: Is that something I can get at Best Buy or Radio Shack? Do you remember how much you paid, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks, and Happy Camping.

Walmart, Radio Shack, both should have them. Cost is under $5. Both ends of the jack are identical. It doesn't charge the ipod/iphone or whatever, it just allows the music to come through your speakers. It still has to be controlled by the i-device.

Thank you for the help. As always, the JOF comes through. On my way to the store now, and I will post the results on this forum when I try out the new cable... Thanks again.

My instruction sheet says: Press AUX to enter IPOD mode. Press MENU button to enter PLAYLIST. Use FOLDER UP/DOWN to navigate thru playlist. Press ENTER to select.

I don't have one so I'm not sure if it works that way.

I got the cable at Radio Shack. The store clerk knew exactly what I needed when I told him what I wanted to do. Works great. Set the stereo on Aux 2.

Glad it worked out. BTW, it also works with car systems with a headphone jack as well.

Are you sure that is an HDMI port on the front or a USB port? My new fiver has a Jensen AWM975 and it has a USB on the front. I am thinking the old Jayco had the AWM965 and it was also a USB on the front. If it is an HDMI port you could use it to connect a laptop to the system if your laptop would happen to have an HDMI port. There are many devices that you could hook up as well...i.e. blue ray players; Roku streaming players, etc. My AWM975 has the HDMI port on the back of the unit.

An update to the iPod question I originally posted: The advice I got from some of the JOF members was/is absolutely correct. There is a cable which can be bought (I paid $12 at a big box store; Meijer, Wal-Mart, Target) that is identical on both ends, and is a 3.5mm to 3.5mm connection. Essentially it plugs into your iPod and the other end plugs into the front of the AWM 965, making your entire RV, your ear buds(headphones). A perfect solution!!! The question posed by WoodGlue regarding the HDMI jack on the front of the Stereo, I would have to agree with rbrumfield. I believe it is NOT an HDMI jack, but a USB port.

We have the same type stereo and chose simply to use an fm transmitter with the iPod, iPhone, or iPad. Plugging into the nearby 12v outlet under the cabinet permits convenient charging and playing.

The AWM965 will not play your iPod via the USB cable. You can however use your earbud port to connect the iPod to the Jenson and the Jensen then acts like an amp/speakers and you control music choices with the iPod. It's an aftermarket cable, try Radio Shack. I've seen on other forums that the 975 model will play the iPod thru USB. The USB on the 965 will charge the iPod. If you want to use the USB port and not the earbud cable solution then put your music on a thumb drive and insert in the USB.
