Kayaks and RV'ing

Hello all,

I love traveling and love to get out on lakes and enjoy the piece and quiet. Problem for me is that, well, I don't own a kayak "yet" and haven't figured out how to carry them on my 5th wheel. That was until my friend showed me this site for a foldable kayak that weighs 26 pounds. Thought I would share!

Wow, that is so neat, I would like to see one up close first I'm sure it okay but let me look at it instead online, now maybe someone might have one that they can comment.

Looks nice but way to pricey, and I would worry about how it will hold up with all those hinge points. If it works for you great.

We saw a couple with a fold-able kayak last month in Fl. They had a waterproof covering on them. We paddled with them a while and they were very happy with them. I'm not sure if this was the brand but I'm sure a Google search would id some other brands also. Maybe not so pricey. They did say it took about 30 minutes apiece to get them ready to paddle.

We have been carrying our Ocean Kayaks for years on a Yakima roof rack and have had no problems.

Cool idea, but I would wonder about longevity at that price. We actually opted to stick with travel trailers just so we would have the bed space to carry our kayaks.

Not sure what trailer you have or your TV, but I'll be there is a solution to carrying them.

and it's not a problem with the 5th wheel mounted? I can't tell - do you have a long bed?

They are a little pricey, but wow, what a room and weight saver!

Front bumper racks work well for short kayaks and fifth wheel combos from what I have seen
We just did a week camping g in the backcountry with 16 foot canoes and we have a trailer so we have the full length of the truck
Yes we are on the road with the trailer and also with tent freeze dried food sleeping bags etc
If you are in the Salt Springs area it’s a nice run at Juniper and also Blackwater creek to Lake Norris

I also have a TT and a long bed truck to carry my kayaks
I use the UNIVERSAL TRUCK RACK to put boats on over my truck - it’s similar to a ladder rack on pickups and it works well. Just a little wind noise (actually more without the boats than with the boats). And I’m sure it’s not gas friendly, but with the TT I don’t think it’s noticeable. I remove it for the winter and put it back on in the Spring!
Love to go camping with my kayaks and that’s usually my main goal with the Travel Trailer

P.S. there are other foldable kayaks out there that have been around for a few years, just not that compact. I have a friend that had one he could take on a plane for traveling. It folded up like a big suitcase.
I personally would be a little hesitant to be dependent on a boat that has materials that could rip/puncture like that? But that’s just me

another option to consider is a modular kayak. I own a modular open top tandem that breaks down and fits in the top bunk of my bunk house. I have been very happy with the kayak.

here is a link to the kayak on the manufacturers website. They have several modulars, and this is a good site to look them over, but if you find one you like , I found they all can be had at better prices by not buying directly from manufacturer.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to easily carry a kayak too without spending too much $$$ on a toy that gets used occasionally.
Pack-a-yak has a pretty compact one but like other clever solutions are a bit pricey.

Think of kayaks as an investment. They hold value better than an RV
Pakcanoe makes several aluminum tubular frame with hypalon skin frame.
Durable? They are used on Arctic expeditions where external loads are not permitted on float planes
They fit in one duffel bag. Big duffel bag

sea eagle kayaks

we have the inflatable sea eagle kayaks. they store in a duffel bag and fit under the bed. they are fairly comfortable and track pretty well. we just leave them in the camper so whenever the mood strikes us they are always there. we are happy with them. just a thought.

A fellow at work makes a folding kayak that seems less expensive than others on the market. He apparently has a new model in the works, too. The Folding Boat Company
