Leaking Battery Questions

Last summer, I fill my battery with distilled water. I think I overfilled them because when I put the charger on them after filling them they leaked all over my garage floor (what a mess & DW was not happy). Well, lesson learned. Now it seems as though ever since I overfilled them they have a tendency to leak when I put them back on the charger.

Is the battery still good and if so what should I do about the small leakage going on?

The battery still holds a charge, not the best, but it does.

My RV battery will collect a bit of moisture on the top of it while charging off the inverter during a campout and my electrolyte level is just touching the "indicator" in each cell. I think it's pretty much the nature of the beast.

If you are having a flood below the battery while charging I'd say it's being overcharged or charged too fast and the water is "boiling" out of it.

More than likely you are using the wrong charger. Any old charger will not do. It needs to be a "smart" charger. Google "smart charger". Get a good one.

Take a turkey baster and remove some of the liquid. It should be about 1/16-1/18 inch below the bottom of the tubes to allow for the "bubble" when charging. The plates make gases which in turn make volume which is not relased until the bubble rises and is expelled. If you fill it to the top each time you will keep having overflows.

On the 2 stage charging. My friends 08 with the IOTA 45A cooked 4 x 6V in two seasons being on constant charge. So I agree with above on the need for three stage charging or a tender.
