Like flying a Helicopter to NM Today
Well,
We made it safely to Albequerque, NM today.
The winds on Rt. 40 were 25-30mph. It was like flying a helicopter across the flats.
I will definitely be getting me a bigger TV before my next trip West.
The Albequerque North KOA is very nice. The winds have died down and we have our awning out.
We have a view of the mountains from our campsite.
All of us are glad to spend some time outside the camper :-)
Best regards,
Doug

Doug, be glad you're there and not here. It was 83 in Southern Indiana yesterday and 39 with snow showers today [same in Ohio].The best part of your trip may have just started, lots of breath taking scenery out there. Do I see an F-150 in your future? Stay safe and keep posting, Terry

Terry,
I think we finally got to some decent weather and scenery combined.
Yes, there will be a full size truck in my future :-)
The little Tacoma will fine a new home and we'll pickup a full size truck. Tundra, F-150, Chevy something bigger than the 4Runner
Best regards,
Doug

Glad everything worked out, and equally glad you're upgrading the 4Runner. I towed the about 7,300lb 26rls yesterday for the first time and was using the 2013 Ram 1500. The driving experience was clearly night and day when compared to driving the 17z with the 4Runner.
I honestly couldn't tell the TT was there yesterday. Upgrade and you'll be very happy!

Doug, don't buy the the full size truck. Than you'll have a real problem. I pulled a 19ft travel trailer for years with an Astro van. I made the mistake of buying a full size truck and realized that I looked silly towing only a 19 foot trailer with it. So I had to go out and purchase a larger trailer.

Doug - Glad you made it through the freezing nights in TEXAS... Now you will have to worry about the freezing nights of Albequerque, NM hehe...
Pretty soon you will be in Desert country and all you see for miles and miles is catus plants thinking I'm in the desert now - no more freezing problems at night - WRONG...
It looks like desert but the ground level may be at the 7000 feet level with mountains up to 12000 - 14000 feet high scattered around you. Gets cold everywhere around there haha... The high country around NM and AZ blows me away... This is good training grounds for COLO mtns and north.
I was trucking down through some of those mountain passes and came between two mountains on each side of the road and sign was there saying something like "BEWARE OF HIGH WINDS" or something like that. Never though much about it until I got inside it and it was "Katie Bar The Door" haha I didnt know if i was going to survive that couple of miles or not. There was a wind sock set up and it was fully extended. Who knows how high the winds was thru that AZ mountain pass. This was on I17 I think it was...
Continue having a safe trip... Heck you may stumble on a town there in northwest NM that is called YA-TA-HEY...

While in Albuquerque, will you try to wake up at day break to watch the hot air balloons?
We got this pic while heading out from Albuquerque back in 2009 going back to Cali. It was daybreak (we were trying to hit I-40 early in the morning before the predicted high winds kicked up). We saw these from Rio Grande Blvd NW.

Doug, glad you made it and are all settled in! We spent the past three nights in Santa Fe and had to bring in the water hose two of the three nights...MAN, it was cold! Drove to Grants, NM today and did the "low flying" thing like you did cuz it was really windy but tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and no wind . Did someone mention YA-TA-HEY? I believe we will be going through there on Monday on our way up to Chinle, AZ. Happy Trails.

Hi Troutslayer,
Glad you had a safe trip my friend. These winds are dangerous.
I hauled the hose in all three night in Amarillo, but we're suppose to be above freezing here in Albequerque.
I hope the winds die down Tuesday. I am going to make a run for Sedona.
Someone did mention YA_TA_HEY lol.
We went into Old Town today and had a nice lunch at a café. Church Street Café I think.
Good Green Pepper Chicken Stew.
They also were dog friendly on the front outside dining area. I like to do business with pet friendly places :-)
Nice folks next to us. Father/Son. Son is about 50 and recently was diagnosed with stomach cancer.
Two weeks after major surgery, he ordered a top of the line NationalRV MH and is working his bucket list.
Trying to hit 49 states this year and do some fly fishing.
Makes you appreciate your health and blessings.
Best regards,
Doug

Doug, I hear you about high winds, got pretty rocky last night near near the Chesapeake bridge/tunnel but luckily, we didn't have to drive in it this time around. The winds up in PA were enough for me.
Glad you made it safe.
We also made it to our CG at camp Hatteras, beautiful spot!

Thanks Boubou,
Glad you all made it safely too.
You'll have to post some pics of the CG.
It's nice when it turns out as good as you had hoped.
Sometime they make the places look better on the website than in person.
Safe travels my friend,
Doug
