It may seem counterintuitive, but generally speaking, industry consolidations preceed the point on the marketing curve when a market has hit maturity and will begin to move downward. This can be due to margin constraints, demographics (demand), substitute products, and so on.

The critical element would be if the gurus see a backlash after covid that constrains the ability to move new units and that is the 'cause' that is forcing those with the ability, to force consolidation of the industry. Another example is Ford who recently commited to build on demand as a 'new' way to deliver through their dealers, thereby saving the dealers a large portion of their floorplanning expense line by not loading the lots with vehicles. I see it as a disguise of the fact that they can't produce those quantities without the computers needed to do so, but who knows. May be the way of the future.

The only way it could get worse is if Camping World bought up Lippert.

i have a mixed reaction on this one. So far my experience with Lippert Customer Service has been outstanding, far better than any other supplier of RV parts. At my age, consolidation in industries is just a normal part of the process. When someone gets too big, smaller competitors normally arise. Just take a look at the TV and appliance industry. There are still good products out there at reasonable prices.

Without looking my guess is it would be the opposite. I'm thinking Lippert is bigger.

well that's sales.
doesn't always translate to profit.

I wonder if they're public?
Will be easy to find out the numbers behind the deal in the shareholder report.

Really??? What is going on... and JOF did not close the thread? Does LCI own JOF too?

Please don't even suggest that! Talk about a "Horror Movie" - the only saving grace at least the production is not in China (YET)

Maybe it's time for RVIA to require that the RV Mfgs. start using ISO and or QS9000 standards to get the quality back up to where it should. It sure helped the automotive manufactures to improve their quality. I worked for a major supplier to the auto market and after we started using the (Say as do, do what I say) we improved the quality of our product. It's time to take a stand and require them to improve or get out of the market.

That is my point.
But in my case it has been Jayco that has had the quality issues, not one of my 2nd party components have gone bad, every issue (and I have had a few) has been with Jayco built and installed items, the latest being the Vinyl peeling off of the front seats in large and small patches. The Mastercraft seats are fine, but the Jayco selected Vinyl is junk, and falling apart after 5 years.

I have always had great response from LCI Industries - on warranty items - sent in the pictures and explained the problem - again - they have always been very fair - not so much with dealing with Jayco (bad bunk ends tearing where they are attached with screws - should be a class action)!

When I bought my first Winnie in 1998 I was told Winnebago was the only RV manufacturer that made most of its own components. Of course, there were lots of non-Winnie parts but they claimed that if a cabinet door or light switch failed, Winnebago would have it or could reproduce it. Who knows if there was or still is any truth to that. BTW, the salesperson claimed Itasca (which is what we were buying, was the upscale brand), he did not know what he was talking about. Itasca was created by Winnebago because they had an ironclad contract with Chrysler to use only Dodge chassis during a period when Chrysler had terrible quality control issues and Winnie was losing sales because buyers did not want a Dodge chassis. Itasca was the solution since the Chrysler contract was specific to Winnebago branded products.

On a good note, depending on how they structure it, it may be good having one central company you contact for issues on all your stuff. My experience with LCI replacing an axle was pretty good last year.
Well they better increase the manning of the customer service call center.

Who knows where this is all heading. Quality sure hasn't improved over the last 5 years with all the mergers, buyouts, etc.

One day there will be only two RV holding companies with X number of brands...

One day there will only be two RV 3rd party suppliers with X number of brands...

Limited choices means higher prices for us.

Could not agree more! The entire industry needs to be held to a higher standard of accountability from components, appliances to unit production.
