Looking for New Jersey Routing Info

Is anyone familiar with New Jersey Route 18, as a "shortcut" between I-287 and I-95? It looks like it would cut a few miles off my route, if it's worth taking. Overall, looking for a better way to get from Albany, NY area, to Dover, DE, without the Route 17 / Garden State Parkway mess......

That route has recently been redone. I haven't been up there in a year or two but you should have no problem driving a trailer through there. Depending on the time of day, you will be in heavy traffic.

Traffic can be a bear on that road and there are lots of lights.

While it cuts miles it doesn’t cut time on a consistent basis.

I just googled it as I am heading that way in two weeks. Right now 78 to 476 is 5 minutes shorter than the eastern route using 18.

I prefer the western route as the further from nyc the better. You never know when the traffic around nyc will go to heck.

Totally depends on the time of day.

Agreed it can be a parking lot around Rutgers and New Brunswick.

You can figure out a way to use the PA Turnpike to get around it. The GS Parkway has a 10k lb vehicle limit and many low underpasses in the right lane. Pay careful attention. You are probably legal with a non-commercial vehicle with the weight limit but that doesn't mean a Trooper won't see it the other way.

Echo everyone else, 18 is kind of a mess but doesn't have any challenges for size or weight restrictions that I know of.
