I think I'd be rebuilding that bunk myself. That way you know it's done right and to your satisfaction. That's just me though..

If you decide to do it, use a jack stud to support the cross brace on each one.

Here is the queen bed fix...
- Replaced 1x1 braces with 2x3 framing on underside of bed platform (note metal bracing in corners for strength)
- Replaced 1/4" plywood with 3/8"
- Added bracing to front support so that the bed frame sits on a support instead of hanging from the hinge
- Added 2x3 supports on each side near foot of bed so that the framing sits on the supports instead of just the plywood around the edges
I was planning to fix myself but just had the dealer do it when it was in for a few other warranty items and a recall fix this spring. They did a really nice job. Its fits better than before and is very solid.

Typo correction above:
Original plywood was 3/8" and it was changed to 1/2"

I just got off the phone with my daughter and her husband. They are on their "maiden voyage" at Disney World ! SIL said he has not slept well because he is rolling toward the middle at night. (The 2 of them are combined are 300+ lbs.)
Probably need a GOOD mattress and a platform rebuild. Thinking about using contact cement to add another layer of 3/8" plywood as well as better framing.

They came installed on our trailer. Others have mentioned adding them to units that didn't have them from the factory in different threads on here.

But, as the link above, the area under my left foot (back to shower head) is very soft. For fear of hijacking this thread, I will head over to your linked thread and join in there
