Maxxair vent covers
Are these worth getting? I'm looking at two Maxxair II covers and a Fan/Mate cover. I'm wondering if they keep out the rain like they say they do, and do they still allow for good ventilation?

I've got two Maxxair II covers, one on the powered bath vent and one over the bunk vent, and a Fan/Mate cover on my fantastic fan. They do work great in providing ventilation in the rain. FWIW, I went with smoke color Maxxair II's instead of white to allow a little more light in. If you look thru my webshots under "Jayco mods so far' page 2 you will see them.

I think the answer is - How does your family camp?
Scenario #1 - We always turn on the AC - we never open roof vents, doors and windows for fresh air then you don't need them!
Scenario #2 - We love fresh air - whenever we can, we prefer fresh air to the AC and open the vents, doors and windows for fresh air. Then by all means install them - that way you can leave them open 24/7.
Living in Alabama, we even leave our vents open when home in storage, don't have to worry about the rain and they help keep the temp down inside the unit during the hot summer. I would never leave a RV dealer in a new unit for us without them.

I second that. I had a plain Cover and just upgraded to a MaxxFan. I also leave it open all winter as well to keep moisture from building up inside.

At our seasonal camp site and when NOT using our TT, we open TT's roof vents approx 3". We lock all doors and windows as well. Except for our small kitchen window. Its "locked open" approx 3". Thus, creating natural air flow venting in this little indown crack, inside our TT and out the top roof vents. When we return to our seasonal TT each weekend, its insides smells nice and fresh - from this natural venting.
With Maxxair or VentMate roof vents (white on our bathroom and black above our kids bedroom area), we can now leave our TT's roof vents open - without rain getting inside as well. For this reason, roof vent covers (Maxxair or VentMate company) are worth it.

I've had two Max Airs on my Motorhome for five years, and ordered them on my new undelivered Jayco trailer. In five years I've never closed my vents, even in the winter. No water has ever got in. I'll never have another RV without them.

If you have a Fantastic Fan you need to check and be sure that a vent cover is compatable. A call to the Fantastic Fan people will steer you in the right direction.

I have the old style MaxxAir covers and there are only two conditions that I close my vents. - When I'm runing my A/C, furnace or electric heater.
- When I store my trailer for the winter (in a limestone mine. This is because of the already higher than normal munidity level inside the mine.)

I'm with the others. On our first trip with the 21M we had some rain and the bathroom floor got wet. Put the MaxxAir cover on before the next trip. We leave the vent open in the rain now and no leaks. I also leave the vent cracked about 2" when in storage and no water found yet. Great product. Well worth the price and little time to mount.

We had 3 installed on our new Class C when we purchased it. Now we leave the vents open a crack all year long for ventilation. 72" of snow this season and no leaks! Before we purchased we rented a Class C which did not have MaxxAir covers. I woke in the middle of the night from rain hitting my face! I decided then and there that vent covers were going to be the first option added.

We got 2 of em on our TT. We rarely open the vents so Id say we didnt need em. They do keep out the rain, so they work.

I open mine frequently rain or shine. They work great. Never a single drop of water inside even when windy from the rear.

Another consideration is hail protection. Having seen what a hail storm does to vent covers, the MaxxAir covers are worth having if only for that reason. All previously mentioned advantages apply.
