Microwave

Hi folks, I was wondering what was a good brand of Microwave for a rv. I have a 2011 26BH, that has a high pointe, and it wont defrost meat, I have been battling with the dealer over this thing for 2 months and they wont warranty it, so I will just replace it, but I want a nice unit, not junk....any suggestions?

Many of the Jaycos use Dometic which have the mounting hardware. I do not know if they are better then anything else but they supposedly are designed for RV use.

If it is the microwave that came with your 26BH, I would think it would still be under warranty. Have you tried bypassing the dealer by contacting jayco directly?

Any brand that fits will work well... just dont go with the cheapest one... as that is what you will get... I like the stainless steel ones I get at Costco.

I would call Jayco directly about the warranty if the dealer wont play ball, but I have seen some micros that have really bad defrost settings -- basically the fan only and they pop on like once ever 30 seconds.

I just replaced mine, it was a Dometic, but I think they are using other brands now. I chose to go with another Dometic because the mounting hardware was identical and saved a few dollars.

Supposedly the RV micros are supposed to be ruggidized for RV use, but I am suspect.

Dometic here also. Call Jayco customer service you probably have a lame dealer.

I remember reading somewhere that High Point is no longer in business. I installed a Panasonic in my old trailer that I bought off the shelf that worked like a charm. Last summer I came across several in parts departments where they've pulled them from units where people didn't want them and sold them for cheap. Possibly put the word out at RV dealers that your looking for one.

Yes folks, I contacted Jayco, they contacted me 24 hrs later and they told me that there was nothing at this point they could do either. Jayco Tech Quote "they are in northern Indiana, I dont have a diagnosis over the phone and the dealers are their eyes and ears in the field".....They recommended that I take it to another dealer, which is a 1.5 -2 hrs away, or I can take it to a non jayco dealer to get it checked.....if this is the response from Jayco and my dealer on a microwave, I hate to see what happens if something major breaks, and I even went as far as buying an extended warranty after my 2 years runs out. I'm just at the point now, If there is no real difference in store bought versus "rv" microwaves, I'm just gonna throw a descent store bought in it and enjoy my rv'ing trips, instead of aggravating myself.....lifes to short...lol

I wouldn't give up on getting the microwave replaced, why should you end up with money out of pocket on something you paid for already,, the 2 year warranty cost you in the purchase price and is supposed to cover ALL the stuff that goes haywire. Take it to someone else other than your dealer and get it replaced as is due you under the warranty. Don't give up!

I just replaced all the electronics in mine. The microwave is a GE 1.1 cu ft that I bought off the shelf at Best Buy for under $75.00. If fit in the Jayco Hood/Fan without modification except for the screw holes to mount the frame pieces.

With that said, I would exhaust warranty options before out of pocket replacement. IMHO of course.
