More on noisy water pumps

Ok, so I read all the issues and solutions with water pumps. Being a bit stubborn I figured that the only good solution was to do an isolation mount for the pump. Wrong.

I finally opened up under the trailer where the water pump is and had the wife cycle faucets on and off.

Almost ALL of the noise was from the PEX water lines banging around.

So, put in a 1 ft loop of flex line between the pump and inlet/outlet lines. Now almost all the noise is gone. The pump is still mounted to the floor in the factory location. The rubber feet that the mfg puts on the pump seem to work very well.

Another one. Air in lines. The pump makes a little more noise when air is in the lines. Also recycles more often. Doesn't take much either.

Thanks to everyone who posted about this.

Yes Jayco drops the ball on this one. If you read any water pump installiation instructions they all say don't use rigid piping (Pex, Copper, Etc.) to connect to the pump, will cause vibration and noise. What does cheap Jayco do, run Pex direct to the pump, I changed mine shortly after purchase.

Good information. On one of my prior Jayco TT I had to wrap the PEX pipes near the water pump with a thin layer of foam rubber to isolate them and keep them from banging around hitting walls and other PEX piping.

x2 on the flex lines ! They are the most effective in quieting a noisy pump. Valterra makes a nice pump silencing kit that includes everything you need .

An accumulator tank will cut down on the constant cycling each and every time a faucet in turned on even a small amount;

Doesn't bother me at all. I only use it when I am winterizing which is not very often down here in the South.

Could you post a picture of this setup?

I changed the Shurflo 2088 pump to a 4008 along with the silencing kit and it made a big difference. I also added a foam pad under the new pump and pipe insulation on the pex lines that contacted anything in the trailer.

FWIW, I've added some insulation to a bunch of the pipes/stuff under there. In that area of my fifth wheel (just behind the command center) there are hot and cold water for external shower, water lines going up to the inside shower, shore water line, 50A power cord, gas line that goes to furnace and a bunch of wiring. Very busy little area.

If I was inclined to do so I'd redo the water lines and move the water pump away from that mess.

PS turned out some of the noise was from the gas line resting on the water line. Both vibrated.
