Mosquito Relief!!!

Hi everyone!

Wasn’t exactly sure where to post this but my family and I are currently on our first trip with our new TT. We pulled up and instantly got destroyed by giant Dino-sized mosquitos. I wanted to see what people have found to be he most effective form of mozzi relief.

Cheers!

Won’t help on this trip but we purchased a Clam enclosure for our trip to Alaska last summer. Worked out beautifully not only for keeping the skeeters at bay but was great on a rainy day for eating and playing games. It goes up unbelievably fast!

If staying by the camper, I have 2 tiki torches with the citronella oil that I burn. It makes a noticeable difference, but wind blowing & direction is a factor. Also use spray with deet.

If I camp where there are clouds of mosquitoes, like in Minnesota in the evening, I will get out first, release a cloud of Yard Guard, then walk through the mist cloud into the camper.

That way I don't have to go on an endless hunt before bed. That is also when we use indoor facilities with no regret.

Tried other brands, never worked as well.

That's why they have wheels! I would leave and go somewhere else.

I have swatted mosquito's all my life and camping in them is not in the cards.

With a statement like that I figured you had to be from Minnesota.

I take a multifaceted approach. I have used a product called "Mosquitoe Beater", citronella candles, bug spray, ideally something with a high Deet content. Sometimes a smoke fire, and or a mosquitoe netted hat.

We stay away from insects, reptiles, and excessive heat. We head to high elevation in the summer and the beach in the winter.

We find that by placing several of these coils up wind from where we are at least 20 minutes before we plan to stay put that we have little if any problem with mosquitoes.

Or you could try this method.

A good oscillating fan. However only a good dose of winter is a sure fire winner, unfortunately. You can try this too.

Try some of this stuff, it's pretty good and no Deet. https://www.homedepot.com/p/BullFrog...DM06/205661500

We use three things:
Thermacells (lights and regular repellers)
3M Ultrathon Lotion, and
full length clothing

Each one is effective on its own. A few years ago we learned they are A) the NJ state bird and 2) everywhere. After camping at one place and getting bombarded I took it seriously and developed the plan above.

We use the Thermacell light BJR linked to above and it is effective if it is not windy. We like to turn it on and put it outside about 15 minutes before we go outside. No more mosquitoes.

I have an Anti-Mosquito app for my smartphone that works well. It only keeps them from the person with the phone though. The app emits a high frequency buzz that most adults can't hear. Children some times can hear it.

I also use the Thermacell. I use it bow hunting also, they work great especially if it's not windy...which is typically when mosquitos are an issue.

Back in my old childhood stompin' grounds of northern Mn we would use "off". But in all reality nothing worked great. If we wanted to enjoy the outdoors we knew that bugs were a fact of life and just put up with them to a certain point. But I agree if they are so bad just leave. Happy Campin'!

Before dark I get a good campfire going. Then I go inside (into the air conditioning) and turn one of the recliners around so I can see the campfire out the picture window

When backpacking with the scouts in the high sierras we would have our troops take garlic pills and vitamin B capsules for about a week before and during the hike. We watched another troop walking through a cloud of skitters and swatting like crazy. I was the last one in line for our troop and when the kids walked through the cloud they skitters dissipated and nobody had to swat anything. Skin so soft also works

We typically use a Thermacell, and Off spray. I use the Deep Woods stuff on myself, but DW doesn't like the high deet concentration, so she uses the "family" stuff for herself and our boy. He's a mosquito magnet, and he gets BIG red whelps after a bite; they almost look like fire ant bites. So we try to keep them off him as much as possible. This has been effective for all but the most obtrusive mosquito swarms. If they get that bad, we just go inside.

Lots of other good ideas here that I'll be sure to try!

Texas mosquitoes are bad, but the Minnesota ones are a whole other breed entirely!
