Question Most comfortable towing vehicle

We are in the market for a new truck and would like one that makes long road trips more comfortable for my kids. I would like
-rear controlled air that blows on their face not on their feet
- legroom for two growing teens
- dvd would be a great plus
- anything that would help my motion sick kids be able to drive comfortably!

Also need to be able to safely pull our 28foot whitehawk.

Any suggestions? What trucks do your kids happily ride in?

As far as I know none of the big three make a truck with a second HVAC unit for the second row. My ram has two vents in the back but they are on the center console and near the floor. If you are looking for rear seat comfort I would check out a ram mega cab. I have one and the seats seem beefier than the crew cab version. Also, they recline, fold flat, and offer behind the seat storage when in use. Great for truck accessories and extra fluids.

If your kids get motion sickness I would avoid the DVD player or phones and keep them looking outside. Hope that helps!

Last I checked Chevy had the most comfortable ride, empty at least. But they also have the lowest towing capacity. Goes hand in hand.

Sounds like a good excuse to go dealership hopping and try them all!

I have an F250 Supercrew and the seats are very roomy. My AC vent is at the back of the center console there. Instead of the extra DVD players for them they each have an iPad (actually cheaper than the DVD). We pull a 27dsrl which is about the same weight

Look at the F150 Screw cab 4 full doors, and lots of leg room. SIL is 6'3" and all legs, he fits fine in mine. You would probably need the HDPP version with that size family/trailer combo

If you are looking for room... I would go with a F250 or F350 crew cab. My F350 SW is extremely roomy that many people have commented how much space is in the rear. I have gone on trips with 5 adult males ranging from 6' to 6'6" and they are fine. But I would highly suggest at least moving to a 3/4 ton for the room and extra capacity.

x1 on what apgambino said---the king of rear seat space is the Ram Mega Cab. Although the Mega Cab is not offered in the Ram 1500, it is offered in the Ram 2500 (3/4-ton) version, which also comes with a coil spring rear suspension. Coils tend to give a smoother ride than leafs.

Going to get a lot of subjective input here. If you're gonna spend $40k-$60k on a truck, I'd suggest personally driving (and having your kids sit in the rear seat of) all the truck offerings from Nissan, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, and Ram. You might be surprised what jumps out at you---both good and bad. FWIW, had a friend's wife make their final truck decision based on the location of all the cup holders--lol!

Good luck!

I have a 2017 Chevy 2500 diesel . Kids are grown up, so can’t help with rear seat opinions there, but I wonder if you can have rear seat cooling seats, that might make up for poor air flow in the back. Best option I have ever had for the front seats.
I haul a 5th wheel, it’s like it not even there and the transmission and exhaust brakes limit the need to use the brakes on even the steepest passes. I also agree, 3/4 ton minimum is the way to go. It rides great an hauls a lot. My console holds a cooler, great for drinks and lunch avoiding a stop here or there.

We towed our TT with a 2004 Ford Excursion, couldn't ask for more room and comfort.

My kids, 12 and 15, love my '17 F250 crew cab. LOT more room than the GMC 2500HD had, plus heated seats, console vents, and both USB and inverter 110V ports for power. No DVD though I just turn my hotspot on and they stream whatever they want.

My 04 Avalanche came with rear AC vents on the top back of the console and roof mounted DVD player. I cant imagine newer trucks not having AC vents for the rear.

Most new trucks still lack this unless you get into the higher end packages. On the Fords, you can get rear vents in the XLT (minimum package) but it's only available with the $1000 optional "flow thru" floor mounted console.

I haven't driven a newer Silverado lately but I'll add my new F250 rides about the same (if not better) than the 2500HD Silverado I sold. The F250 also has more rear leg room but has a much higher step in level that will quickly push you to buy a set of running boards.

Is there a truck made with rear air that has the vents up top? As far as I know, they are all on the floor. I tell my kids if they want more air, roll down the window.

F-150 has flat rear floor in supercrew cab. Get with dual AC controls (keep wife happy). New years can be ordered with temp controls for rear seats.

And we love our captain's chair seats w/AC and heat. The console shifter was a requirement for me.

The flow thru option also includes captain chairs w/AC and heat. Really worth it.

As for space, my recently retired cowork's Toyota Tacoma has an insane amount of rear passenger space. It has the bigger doors. A 6' man, with huge feet would be comfortable.

He also has a really good towing package.

We just picked up an F350 Platinum, lots of room and a very comfortable ride. We haven't had a chance to tow the camper on a long trip yet but as nice as it is empty it should be even better when loaded down a bit.
