I don't live in Alabama but Desoto State Park should be an easy drive for you. Cloudland Canyon just over the state line in Georgia is another good spot.

There are many beautiful Army Corps of Engineer Parks, COE's, in Alabama and nearby states.

We have camped at Desoto and CLoudland Canyon many times over the years ...Really like Cloudland Canyon and we stay on the West RIM camp sites when we go there... Beautiful views of the Canyon and Fall Foliage is suburb...

The big thing I really miss leaving Texas was not being able to look straight out standing on the ground in Wichita Falls and see the Horizon. Won't get to do much of that here on the East side of the USA... Not much open skies around here...

I have to agree. I am hosting right now at Jennings Ferry Campground. We are 9 miles off of I-20 exit #40 and we get several campers a week that stop in for the night going up and down I-20. Several times we will see the same folks coming back through on their return trip and stop in again.
