We just use a Master Lock on the coupler. It doubbles as a safety pin and is easy to store. In addition it makes it nearly impossible for someone to walk by when we are hooked to the truck and lift the coupler up. 5th wheels can also be released in a second just by pulling the lever so a lock on them is a good thing to have also.

I use a lock on the coupler so that someone can't just release it when I am parked in route to the campground. The only thing I lock when camping is my honda generator and the door to the camper (if I am leaving the campsite for an extended period). Like others have said, locks keep honest people honest.

Right now my trailer is sitting on a private lot. Not in a campground or at home. I do have a coupler lock on the tongue of the trailer. It will not stop someone from stealing my camper, but it may cause them to go for an easier steal.

know of some people whose tt was stolen from a storage lot. it was found abandoned near yosemite nat. park. they never knew it was gone untill the police contacted them. lock your hitch.

It is my understanding that stolen articles are NOT covered by insurance- The insurance company stated that all valuables must be under lock and key to be considered for reimursement- Please don't ask me how I know! DD

I keep mine locked on and off the tow vehicle. I heard about trailers being stolen then used for meth labs too. Crooks is crooks....

I bought a " Reese "coupler lock and the " Club " wheel lock. If they want to steal it , might as well make them work for it . 
my dealer mentioned to us that several people had their hitches stolen from campsites last season. What's the world coming to ?

I do the same, Corben. Since I use a small coupler lock, I just put it on whether towing or disconnected.

Funny timing, but I just took my TT to the Jayco dealer to have a recall done, and after unhooking I installed the ball lock that came with the trailer. So not having a place to leave the key as it was closed, I decided that I would actually take it off and leave it off for them, since all of the the other trailers didn't have them, and some were worth way more than mine. BUT the lock was old, and now seized. I tried prying it off over and over, with no luck...so I got out a hammer. Two strikes is all it took to break the whole casting in two, and for it to fall off, without even needing the keys in it !!! I never realized that they were so flimsy!!! And no one noticed, so I have to now agree now more than ever... "locks keep the honest honest!"
