My Trailer is an Amplifier

Has anyone else noticed that some sounds seem to be amplified by the trailer's shell? When I'm inside mine, there are times I hear a loud noise (stereo bass, construction noises, etc) when inside my trailer. But when I go outside I can barely hear that noise.

I've notice this several times over the last 10 years. I think the aluminum siding vibrates along with the lower frequency sounds, isolating it and making it louder inside the trailer.

If I hadn't experienced a little bit of what you are talking about I would have to ask - What you were smoking! I have on rare occasions noticed sounds that seemed louder inside my aluminum sided camper than outside but never really thought about it. For me its mostly music from our Bluetooth speaker we have setup outside. It sounds louder inside than it does outside...

Only the good stuff, but I notice when I'm not smoking as well.

Bill, you are absolutely right! I’ve noticed the same in our aluminum-sided TT. Things like next-door campers shutting cabinet doors or drawers are easily heard — even amplified — inside ours. Pickup doors shutting, tailgates slamming, etc also come through old and clear. Im sure there’s a physics nerd out there who can explain resonance and the like. But it is for real.

It's good to know that it's not just my imagination.

I also noticed that when we had our first camper which had the aluminum siding and no extra insulation. Our second camper had fiberglass sides and the thermal package (minimal additional insulation) and I didn’t notice it. The second camper was also bigger than the first so maybe that helped too. Not sure but definitely use to notice it on our aluminum sided one…

I noticed that when I was parked next to an RV that had had an extremely loud furnace.

The furnace was so loud it made our trailer vibrate.
