Never Camp in these spots!

Next to the guy who has the 7000 construction generator near your spot!

Camped at a place in Accord NY Rondout Valley Campground for memorial day. Sites where we were in turned into a huge mud hole when it rained. Everyone was getting stuck not only backing in an leaving sites but just traveling to the site. Road or should I say paths leading to the sites we're all dirt, and narrowed by trees.

The upside was we all did what the camping lifestyle has us do and helped each other. I pulled at least 3 campers out that were stuck in mud. Others pulled out even more. My turn came when we tried to leave and I sunk axle deep in mud. 2 fellow campers pulled me out.

Needless to say, I don't recommend this campground...

Years ago (1964) when camping with my parents we were flooded out of a NF campground in Montana during Memorial Day weekend. Three families camping together and we had to leave on Sunday instead of our planned Monday because the Missouri was on the rise. That campground was ultimately abandoned by the Forest Service. It's a shame too, because most of the year it was a great spot.

That spring of '64 there was major flooding across north central Montana.

A buddy of ours camped with our group last summer for the first time. He had a Champion dual fuel monster generator that he was so proud of. 5 minutes after he fired it up, the rest of us gave him so much static that he turned it off for the rest of the trip. He subsequently bought a Yamaha inverter to replace it. Unfortunately some people don't research and find out the hard way.

Wish I had a picture of ours. Had almost the same experience arriving at our favorite CG in the middle of a torrential downpour. Sited our pup so that the door opened onto the only above water spot on the site, but my shoes were completely submerged while unhitching and levelling. We have nicknamed that site "A River Runs Through It"

Second least favorite site (same CG) we named "The Barnyard". After a week of rain prior to arrival, the mud wallows were impressive. A few days in we were all tired of wiping out every other step. Found a huge bale of "barnyard litter" a a local feed store, and it did an amazing job of absorbing all the mud and water. The stuff smelled pretty good - like living in the worlds biggest hamster cage.

We are actually staying in "A River Runs Through It" again this August because it was the only large site available for our dates; this CG fills up (pun not intended) months in advance. I am praying for a dry August.

When camping on a river, watch for quickly rising water from unannounced Dam releases.

This is at Yogi Bear in Gardiner NY on the Wallkill River.

I've been at Yogi when the river crested. I was too mad to take pictures though... Going back for July 4th but refuse to stay at a river site.

We camped a couple of sites away from a guy using his truck mounted Lincoln welder as his generator for the weekend. He ran it from 8:00AM to 8:00PM both days he was there. It was hot and I guess he wanted air conditioning, the funny thing is we never saw them leave their camper all weekend.

It was in boondocking territory so there wasn't much a guy could do about it.

Better than to be camped at TH Stone.. It went from a RV accessible campground to a permanent boat only accessible campground in two hours.
