New England trip
Hi,
I'm looking for some opinions please.
We are planning a trip to the New England costal area this summer. It's me, my wife, sister and brother in law with a FW and a TT. We all work so start to finish we have 7 days.
I'm near Nashville, TN. Given where I am and 7 days to do it; where should we go? I'm thinking we want to camp a couple of places and day trip from there.

Since you have only 7 days, I would go to the coast line of CT. Mystic has nice seaport and Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos are close. There are as some vineyards in the area.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but even Mystic is 1000 miles (2k miles round trip) from Nashville. How long did you plan to spend getting there and back?
I'm also planning a NE trip but I'm going as far as Maine from Texas. Since I don't have the time constraints that you do, I am planning to drive about 350 miles per day... but even then, with breaking camp, driving, arriving, setting up, etc., it will make for a fairly long day. Plus I want to camp a few days along the way.
What I am doing is using Google Maps, plotting a course and adjusting for the number of miles I plan to drive each day plus making sure I land in a spot that's gotten good reviews. Here's a couple of websites you might fine useful:
http://stateparks.com/
http://www.rv-dreams.com/ (look under campground reviews)
http://www.allstays.com/c/wal-mart-locations-map.htm (in case you want to pull an overnight at a Walmart to maximize your travel)
Best luck

Hi,
Don't miss Gillette Castle, it's a very unique State Park with an old castle you can tour. Misquamicut Beach just over the border of CT into RI, wonderful beach and it used to have an RV section (live in CA now so I can't tell you for a fact that it still exists.)

I would check your calculations on that one. It's 7 hours just to Harrisburg, PA from Boston and that is on the best day you could dream up. Going through the NY metro area is a nightmare and if you go the 95 coastal route over the GWB expect another 2 hrs or more depending on timing with traffic.
I don't mean to rain on your parade I just think that 7 days is not going to be enough to trully enjoy it. It's 4 days travel time unless you can do 20 hrs straight each way.
Also when planning keep in mind that here in the NE states Parkways are for cars only! So alternate routes are limited when planning your trip up this way. You will loose your AC unit due to bridges as low as 9 ft. Even with all the warnings a truck a months still gets stuck under one of them somewhere.
If you can't buy yourself more time then maybe the NJ coast might be a better "short" trip with access to the coast.
New London, Mystic is only about 1.5 hrs short of Boston.

Boston is a lovely city... one of the few big cities that doesn't feel "big". And there's no doubt, NE is an awesome place to visit in the summertime. I hope you're able to convince the others that more is better in this case... speaking of time, that is.
