Question New RV Play Time

Within the last week, I've seen RVs coming out of hibernation, filling up at the station outside my office window, and heading out for parts unknown. It's time for my new RV to join the crowd. Prepare for tons of questions while I figure all this out.

First question: my Octane SLs been sitting in my driveway awaiting The Day. I'm sure after sitting for three months, the batteries are probably dead. I have some solar panels hooked up to catch some late afternoon full sun (at 6000ft). And nothing. No lights on the panel adapter box. So question #1: will solar panels charge batteries that are completely dead (if they are indeed dead)? If not, what's the best way to charge them on up? Hook them up to my truck and go for a spin?

I've always believed that a stand alone battery charger is best. Make sure they are correctly topped off with water before charging.

Maybe next fall you can remove the batteries for the storage duration and keep them on a battery tender to keep them "alive" during the cold weather, non-camping season. Works for my Harley, and I keep my 5er plugged into the 15 amp house power to keep everything powered-up during our mild winters here in North Florida. Good luck with your battery issue and have a good camping season this summer.

If they do recover, don't let them sit discharged like that. It will shorten their lives severely.

They need to be removed and fully charged, then tested by a auto parts shop.

Search this forum for threads on battery disconnects and battery care.

Three hours of reading and a $100 trip to Wallyworld, I'm now plugged into shore power after testing the working outlet with an outlet-tester-thinga-ma-jig and I have a battery-WTF-are-all-those-colors-all-about-whatchamacallit for the cross-fingers-and-pray that's going to be happening tomorrow.
