Nice Xmas gift if you don't have one....

I stopped tonite at home depot to pick up some weather stripping. Got to looking around and found that they have a Magic Chef portable ice maker. Makes 27 pounds a day! Best part is they only want $98! Told the DW as soon as I got home. Since I bought her a kindle today for Xmas...it only seemed fair!

We love ours, use it everyday, even gave one to my mother in law who uses it at her lake house.

I just read some reviews and it apparently doesn't store ice. That seems odd to me.

I have a portable ice maker as well, use it all the time. It does store the ice but it does not have a freezer compartment to store the ice so it does melt...I solve that problem by putting in in a bag and putting it in the freezer in the camper. I have not bought ice for my drinks or cooler since I bought the ice maker. It has paid for itself over and over again...best part is after having a few beers I never have to drive into town to get ice.

We dump our ice in a cooler with our drinks in it, then it makes more so you always have fresh ice for your drinks.

That's an awesome price. I've been looking at one of these for awhile, and the price is usually $139.00 or more.

I've been wanting to pick one of these up for a while. Thanks for the tip, Krackeer.

I bought a Magic Chef last spring and it performed well. Keep in mind that the 27 pounds if ice is over 24 hrs and it fills up and stops making ice about every 2 hrs or so due to the sensors. If you dump it before it reaches there each time you will keep a medium cooler going for a dew days without having to run to the store for a larger bag.

It is a great unit and will pay for itself in a year if you are always using a cooler for ice and buy it every trip. What I also do to keep up with it is make a block or two in my freezer and throw them in the cooler once a day to help it out.

If you put it inside your unit it will produce faster due to the A/C helping keep it cool.
