No Joycos here

Been on Maui for the last few weeks. I have not seen one RV. I imagine the hotels would not like the competition. Every time I pass a beach I always think how nice it would be to have our trailer parked beside the ocean. Can't wait to start camping again.

We spent 10 days on Maui just outside of La Haina, brutal flight from Indy but worth every minute. Best snorkeling on the planet. If it costs 2500. to ship an RV to the west coast, I wonder what it would cost to "ship" it to Hawaii. Probably better to buy the kit and assemble it yourself.

That is where I am. Just up the road from Lahaina. I was snorkeling today
and agree it is a great way to spend a day. We have another week and will
dewinterize the trailer the day after we get home. Can't wait to get going again.

I was born and raised on Maui, and I never even saw an RV/TT until I came to California at 18 years old. Nobody has 'em - we use hammocks and pack the blenders in!

My dad's neighbour had his Volkswagen camperized van shipped over and toured around the islands with it then had it shipped back home. I assume it left from Vancouver.

Read #10 in this story. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...usaolp00000592

10. RVs and Mobile Homes
While there's no actual ban on RVs or mobile homes, you'd be hard pressed to find either in Hawaii. This is largely due to the exorbitant cost of shipping such large vehicles over from the mainland. Think about it: anything that isn't produced or manufactured in Hawaii, has to be shipped over, making many costs skyrocket.
Moreover, if you decide you just can't part with your RV, you'll soon realize there are limited highway miles on each of the islands, thus kind of defeating the point. Just another reminder that, in Hawaii, there's no real need to rush from place to place -- the point is to appreciate the view you already have.
