Noisy water pump

Good day all,

So we just purchased a very cherry 2009 22 foot JayFeather Sport.

love it!! It tows nice and everything works well.

But....OMG the water pump is noisy. I have not had a chance to look but it must be mounted direct to the frame or a piece of wood.

Is there any reason why I should not put some form of insulation or idolater between it and whatever it is mounted to???

thanks all

Paul

Put in an accumulator tank coupled with a "silencing kit", and you'll be good to go.

The pumps have rubber feet on them, but some people have mounted the pumps to a separate isolation device as well.

For me though, the tank and the "silencing kit" solved the noise problem and a couple other problems as well.

A lot of times what your hearing are the plumbing pipes banging against the inside of a cabinet or wherever the pump is. They vibrate quite a bit when the pump runs. You can follow the plumbing and attempt to use foam (think small pool noodle material like they use to insulate water lines in a house) and wrap the parts that are hitting things. You can install a kit that uses soft lines coming out of the pump so it doesn’t send the vibrations down the rest of the plumbing too.

Very interesting guys, I will have to dig into this.

Also need to figure out why the freshwater tank lasted 4 days on the first fill and only one on the second fill. Lol

You might possibly be experiencing the fresh water tank siphon problem some people are posting about. There are a couple of recent threads about it. You fill up, and drive to where your going and your fresh water has drained out of your freshwater overflow drain as you travel.
Or your experiencing what I call “waterfaucetabuseitis” and the cure for that is threatening everyone with creek baths if they don’t lay off the fresh water.

Lol

The strange thing is that I filled up the second time while parked. I have about 300 foot of hose.

Thanks

I added additional clamps to water lines on the floor. Suspended lines often need pipe insulation to keep from banging. It makes a remarkable difference.

Do you by chance have an outdoor shower?

The reason I ask is, I bought our 222 Octane SL in November and it was winterized by the previous owner. In the spring, I did the unwinterizing and off we went camping. But wow was that water pump noisy. We went the whole season last year dealing with that noise. My wife kept telling me we should get a new water pump. I just kept telling her "next year".

So this spring, I got our camper all dewinterized just like before. But, I realized that I had not gotten the air purged out of the outdoor shower. Once I did that, my pump is less than half as noisy as it was.

That air in the system was the cause of all that racket.

Some good ideas above but the first thing I would do is to assure that you have all of the air out of the lines. Our pump was not real loud but you could hear it and it was distracting. Recently I drained the hot water tank, refilled all the lines in the TT, and the pump is now 75% quieter. We were amazed. (We had always let air out when hooked up but I guess there was a major air pocket in the hot water heater.
