I tell people that once the kids were off the family payroll, I was astonished at how much I actually made.

Tell them camping is cheaper than therapy and a whole lot more fun.

That would be highly unlikely. To be able to teach anyone anything, they have to be intelligent enough and willing to learn.

These are luxury items. Whether it's a used popup or a million dollar class A. None of us NEED them. That being said. I work hard for my money. I got a useful trade which I'm well paid for. Part of that is I risk my life to make the money in a very dangerous job. We have all made good choices to be able to afford to play the way we want. I do make more than most of my friends. A lot of them are riding around in $40k diesel trucks. I got a 15 yr old clunker and a $10k Escape. I got toys but I manage the money so I can play how when and where I want. I'm don't have a payment deciding what I can do. I don't throw it their face but I don't hide it either. They could make the same life choices I have. Its my money!

I just tell them the retail price and smile. They always assume I got taken to the cleaners. Retail pricing can be found easily with today's technology. When I was working for the state it was a state law that your gross pay was public information. I was instrumental in getting that information added to the state website. After the novelty wore off it was rarely mentioned in the media. I guess that is why it doesn't bother me when asked such questions.

I hear this at work from my supervisor and my co works. Side note all a bunch of big sports nuts, they seem to be able to go to all of the games and spend the weekend. I have a 2012 truck and a 2014 TT. Nobodys business I have 700 in my tailer. Neighbors dead tree totaled my popup I stood my ground got what I wanted and then bought her back fixed traded it and a insurance check for the TT. I dont care what my family and coworkers think. I say to my coworkers enjoy the game I am going to the lake.

I have had comments like that. I have also had comments like "a brand new trailer and the same old truck."

I have learned to let life come as it may. They say life is a race, in the end you realize it's only with yourself.

To by bluntly honest, I don't feel guilty or I don't feel like I should live up to what someone else thinks I should. In fact when it comes right down to it. I really don't care what people think about the way I live and what I have or don't have. Just as I don't really care what other people have or don't have or how they live. As long as they are not hurting, infringing or trying to manipulate me then everything is happy.

Don't let it bother you unless you're soliciting their input.

Don't let it bother you,it will wear off.Im only 34 but I worked my ass off for the things I have and some of the people we grew up with are always saying things like we are rich or must be nice to be you.But I don't feel I have to explain my self to them. But my wife and I are very good at managing money, and when all my friends went to college I learned a trade and got into the job I am at now and they have degress and tons of bill and are cutting grass or doing something other than what they went to school for,not my problem I made the better decision.I am probably15 years younger than most of my neighbors and most of them always stop by to look at the camper when its here and love it,some are campers to so we have what I call shop talk about things.

I get that treatment all the time. I make decent money, and my wife has a doctorate and is a school administrator so we are "comfortable", especially since the cost of living is pretty low where we live.
The most common one is "Must be nice" and my response is "Sure is". As a matter of fact, I usually just go ahead and tell people we're rich and that shuts them up most of the time.

The only comments our neighbors have made is, "Whoa! Cool!" or "I saw your new Jayco - enjoy it!" However, anyone who does ask gets The Story. (This will be the long version ....)

The Tucson Medical Center holds a mega-raffle every year. Tickets are $100, prizes range from fantabulous to meh. It's a good cause, so we bought a ticket last year, and a ticket this year. Well, this year, while we were at our tax-lady's office, on 1 April, we got a call from the Raffle People. Promising it was not an April Fool's joke, they told us we'd won.

At first we thought, fine, we've won dinner someplace. But no, we'd won a Jaguar! We don't want a Jag, lovely though it sounds; and a two-seater isn't practical for us anyhow. So we sold it back to the dealer for about 90% of its value, and used the windfall to a) finish a fair amount of work at our son's house, b) get new windows in our house, and c) get our Jayco (with a trade-in). We didn't tell many people till the money was all spent, though.

I can't imagine worrying about what a neighbor is thinking concerning us and our finances, regardless of anything they say or do.

Cheers,
Greg

My wife bought a nice new 2015 F150. When she comes home from work, I get to pretend it's mine!

My truck is an ugly little Nissan, 1985, well used. Oh, and did I mention that it is ugly? People make comments about me being rich when I drive her truck, but never say a word about my beauty!

Not worrying about what the neighbors think or say doesn't mean you don't have to cope with it when they say it to your face. Usually I try to take everyone's concerns seriously (sometimes as if they were three years old), but this'd be a case where I'd feel free to be as "witty" (sarcastic) as I wanted to.
