Oregon Coast Ideas
We are planning a two week trip up the Oregon coast next summer. We will be starting in the Coos Bay Area and working our way north. Would appreciate any suggestions from those who have made this trip. Must see places? Best to avoid places? Especially interested in cool spots that aren't on every tourist list. Appreciate any and all input!

Well, a nice place to spend the day would be Old Town Florence. There's RV parking on the West side of Old Town. Then if you want, you could go out the 126 toward Eugene just under a mile or so and there's Three Rivers Casino. You also can get 4 free nights RV parking there too. A few miles up the 101 you could stay at Harbor Vista RV park. Very nice, with steps down to the beach. Next up is a hidden gem of an RV park at Seal Rock called Seal Rocks RV cove. It's not a big park, but an ocean view and nice. A little further up is South beach RV park. Huge and noisy in the summer, but don't know about the winter. If you stay at Seal Rock you need a toad to get up to Newport and Depoe bay which are worth seeing. When you get to Newport, check out Nye beach. Very nice shops, bakery and a nice day to be had there. Lincoln city is also worth a stop. There's many many campgrounds. Gold beach is another decent one, and Cannon beach. At Newport they also have the big aquarium. Forget Waldport, nothin there but a chinese restaurant. Go down to the harbor in Newport. Catch the wax museum and Riply's Believe it or not. In Newport, there is a seafood restaurant named Georgies. Superb, not too expensive and a full ocean view. Skip Sea Lion caves. It's a big ripoff, and if you just drive past it about a 1/4 miles to the next roadside pullout, look down the cliff and you'll see just as many sea lions as you want for free. Bring binoculars you'll really be glad you did. In the summer, you absolutely must have reservations for the RV parks. The whole world goes there in summer.

Well I have your 1st stop and you will dream of coming back. It's Charleston, Or. and it's about 6-7 miles west of Coos Bay and right on the ocean. The State Park you must stay at is Sunset Bay SP, they have full hookups as well as water & electric ( book early). Just up the road 1 mile is Shore Acres SP no camping but hiking trails along the way. Another State Park just a half a mile further up the road and at roads end is Cape Arago SP. when you google Cape Arago SP you will see the street loop well just before the end fo that loop you'll see a rest room on the left and just a few feet beyond that on the right is a trail that you can take right down to the water ( it's all switchbacks) and from 1-10 its about a 2 and no more. The people in the know call it fossil cove , bring a lunch as you'll probably be the only ones there. Now this picture is from Cape Arago and it's the 1st trail to the right of the parking lot and these trails are quite short because your right at oceans edge. Others should chime in so I'll end it here but PM me and I'll give you more spots that you should enjoy.

You should read the book "Astoria" this winter and if you stay at fort Stevens SP in Astoria and you like beer then The Buoy Brewery is a good place to have one also Fort George Brewery. They both have good food ( first choice is the buoy) and they both have seating outside if you bring your dog. This pic. Is at fort Stevens sp

We always stay at Beverly beach. Take your time stop lots. Everyplace has much to see. Depoe bay is a cool little town. Stop at the sea hag for clam chowder. Inexpensive fishing trips out of there if that interests you.
Lincoln city. Cape fowl weather, devils churn, Newport, sand dunes in Florence, seaside, coos bay, Astoria, any of the many lighthouse’s. nahelam bay, tillamook. A couple of hrs off the coast is McMinnville they have a great air space museam this is where the spruce goose is located.
You can stay almost in or around any small town and make day trips. We started going down there 20 plus years and find something new every time. Still have lots to see. I bet we have done that trip 10-12 times. Absolutely love it.

Lol we we're just at the Sea Hag last week. If you want a chuckle, go to the urbandictionary.com and type in Sea Hag. You'll get a real belly laugh at the description.

Like already mentioned, pick your spots and book early. We always booked state parks because they are beautiful and fairly private and then stayed in a private campground with good laundry facilities at about the halfway point. Your signature doesn't show your rig but be aware that most camp spots along the coast were built before RVs got big so if you have a larger unit there is even more reason to book early.
Nothing is really that far on the Oregon Coast so we always stayed 3-ish nights per spot and visited the spots we wanted to see then drove a couple hours to the next camping spot.
We haven't been for 4 years now but my kids still talk about the annual stop at Tillimook for a tour of the cheese factory and a waffle cone.

You'll be delighted to know the cheese factory you visited 4 years ago is being torn down as we speak and a much bigger one is replacing it. The number of people visiting have grown in both size and number. Now that there getting older they should enjoy the artesian cheese makers along the coast in both Oregon And Northern California. Humboldt Fog with a glass of wine on the beach while watching the sunset is a good one for us.

Another really great museum, in addition to Evergreen, is the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum, known as WAAAM. It is located right at the end of the Hood river airport. We really enjoyed it. You can see it at Home - Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum I don't know if your going up that far, but if you do it's a good one.
