Outside rail

My X23B has the rail mounted to the side of the camper to hang a grill from but I don't have a grill. I'm toying with the idea of building a table to hang here that I believe would be very useful but I can't find any information on what the rail is rated to hold up. I don't want to build a nice table and then rip the rail off the side! Lol. Anyone know the weight limit is?

This is not mine but one that was for sale a few years ago. They used the standard grill mount that comes with the grill. I have a picture of one , I'll try and find it.

Anyone know what the piece is called that I will need to order so that I can attach to my table to hang from that rail? I won't be home for a few weeks and would like to order it and have it waiting on me when I return.

Very ingenios! We used to have your trailer, but we had a grill on it. If you want to add a grill I'd be happy to give you the manufacturer.

Like Tunce, I used the existing RVQ bracket to add a shelf; maybe not as finished as his, but functional. Mine inserts onto the two arms - no parts other than 1 2*8 cut down and glued up. Note that the grill arms are available from the manufacturer, the link was posted here on JOF a few months back, try a quick search for RVQ bracket or similar terms.

ETA: there is no weight limit listed on the bracket. It is very sturdy, and I would be most worried about damaging the siding on the TT where the bottom of the bracket rests. That spot takes the most of the force.

Okay, that may have been a wild goose chase, because I couldn't find the link to the manufacturer site anymore. But I did find this link that should work. $25 for the part:

http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/me...lbums1117.html Just for grins, I made this from scraps in the shop, except the rails, that came from our dealer. Needed a table for cooking utensils, etc.

How did you attack that to the rail on the trailer? You didn't use the rvq rack like most have?

No, it's another piece of rail matching what came on it that I screwed to the side.I did some careful measuring and found a dinette seat brace directly behind where the rail would fit. Also used a stud finder, which was not be very accurate. Of the four screws used to fasten it, three hit the wood. Note that I had to use long screws to reach, and was very careful not to go through some where I didn't want them to since the screws were actually going through the wall to the brace inside the TT. Our floor plan allowed the rail to line up directly in front of the existing rail, so it looks like one piece. Also, the table isn't heavy, nor do we over load it. You may have to use an alternate fastening system on yours, so the screws go into more than just the outside skin.

I worded my question wrong...I already have the rail on the trailer mounted there by the factory. I was wondering how you attached the table to that rail. Is it a store bought bracket or something you made?

Bankr63 - how do the arms from the bracket attach to the wood? Did you drill holes in the side, mount some type of tube underneath? Or is it just sitting there?

On the RV net forum, there is a very detailed description of a great table modification that someone did. He used adjustable paint handle extensions as legs for his table (adjust to uneven ground) so that he can load up the table with heavy items. One side attaches to the trailer, the other is supported by the paint handle legs. Here's a photo of the finished project:

And here is a ling to the RV Net thread - (Look for the post with all the photos by jbarka) RV.Net Open Roads Forum: I miss the outdoor stove with my Pop Up

I had an old tent trailer that had a table you could take out and attach on the side of the trailer it had a track on one edge similar to the bbq mounts today and also had single leg that swings down to support the side not attached to the trailer. I think I would rather have a leg that comes down than to be totally suspended off the wall. I'm sure it would be easy to make one.

Sorry I misunderstood your question. The rail on the table is actually the wall side of these brackets, screwed to the table. Because of my design expertise (or severe lack-there-of), the table has to slide onto the TT bracket, not drop down onto it, like our stove does. Attachment 26056

Attachment 26058 The underside support is a piece of 1/2" PVC, that just sits against a screw recess on the wheel trim. The PVC attachment on the table side is just a mix of a mini-blind support bracket, and a plastic dowel in a PVC end cap. If I can figure out how to attach my own pictures here, I'll do so if you're interested. Like I said before, this was just made out of scrap stuff I had laying around the shop. The only parts purchased were the actual mounting rails.
