Pex repair kit. Who carries one?

Wondering if it's prudent to have repair parts for pex water system. Or find a Home Depot when problem occurs. What parts are most needed?

I don’t carry a pex repair kit. I do carry some tools and duct tape. In the unlikely chance something with the pex would fail, I’d have to look for a local store.

I do carry a Sharkbite 1/2" straight coupler and a 1/2" 90° elbow. I figure they are the most likely fittings I might need!

I carry two five foot lengths of 1/2 inch Pex pipe, a small assortment of plastic Pex fittings, a handfull of 1/2 inch stainless steel clamps, and a cheap clamp tool. These items take up almost no room. The Pex clamp tool was about $50, but I have used it several times to add several valves and a check valve.

I understand that Shark Bite or similar fittings do not require a tool; however, I like the convenience of having all that I need to fix a piping problem. And the clamps are less than 25 cents and fittings are about 50 cents, versus a 1/2 inch sharkbite coupling at Home Depot is $8. Doesn't take long to justify buying a Pex clamp tool.

I bought a couple of short pieces of PEX and some straight and elbow connectors. Have yet to need them but having them makes me feel better.

I carry plugs...couplings, pex tool and clamps. A few other misc fittings I had,

No shark bite do not require any special tool.

Always had a 5' length of pipe and an assortment of the Watts equivalent of "shark bite" fittings.

I highly suggest carrying the pex cutter (Due to use the fittings it needs to be a very good cut that a knife usually doesn't do or it will leak). Plus some Sharkbite fittings and little bit of pex piping. I wish I had thought about this before I had a bad leak of my toilet line in my last 5ver. Due to the leak we had to shut off water and have no water for the last few days of the trip. Now I carry that stuff in my tool box just in case as if I had the stuff, I could have fixed it in 10 minutes.

Ugh, something else to add to the toolbox. Never thought of having any of this, but I can see the value in it now of course.

Sharkbite unions are not cheap !

I just bought a cheap pex tool from Amazon and it came with 1/2” & 3/4” clamps.
Going to pick up some pex fittings also.

Think best emergency kit is a couple 2 or 3 foot pieces of pex tubing and a straight and a 90 sharkbite fitting. Any bigger repair typically requires accessing storage or undercabinet areas and is more than I would be prepared to deal with on the road. I had a connection to a faucet under the island sink and had to cut out a panel in the back of the island to gain access. That allowed me to repair the fitting and reassemble it for the rest of the trip. Did a more through fix when I got home and then tackled the repair to the island panel.

I hate plumbing and rv plumbing is never fun given that everything is in tight and hard to access places.

Some of the cheap tools work rather poorly...if you don't get the proper amount of pressure on the fitting it will leak. Good tools will come with a gauge to make sure the tool is set properly.

Good Luck.

Some 90s, some Ts and some connectors, clamps and tools with enough tubing to last. Under bed storage for the tubing I imagine.

Yes. The tools, clamps, pipe but also a pex shark bite cap.
I have used one once and provided one to others in need twice.

I had a hot water faucet fail on a trip home, had to turn off pump because there were no shutoff valves. Having the cap allowed me to cap the hot water feed and continue to use the water pump until home.

I replaced the faucet and added two shut off valves and now continue to carry a cap and other small parts.

Great feedback. In my research, Cut tool, crimp tool, clamps, misc. fittings, and 10' of 1/2" line for around $50 from HD. Cheap peace of mind for me. Vacation time is already limited. I like the idea of shut off valves. Would make it easy to isolate issue. Up here in northern Michigan you never know how well you winterized until the first spring trip.

I carry a pex kit, pipe and fittings. Never needed it for myself while camping but repaired other campers over the years.
