Pots & pans in oven?

What’s the consensus on traveling with pots & pans in a trailer oven? I’ve seen videos suggesting this is a good place to store them - makes sense to me as long as they aren’t in the bottom with the pilot light. But when we did our walk thru with the dealer he said not to do it. I’m using Aluminum pots not cast iron.

Thoughts?

That's where we keep all our snacks and bread, IMO to heavy for the racks.

That's where we carry our electric skillet. The legs stick down into the oven rack to prevent it shifting around.

It was out pot & frying pan storage...never used the oven or stove in our last 5 units. Went to a hot plat then induction burner and had the convection micro.

Yep, that's where the frying pan went.

Our heavy stuff (cast iron) etc. goes on the floor, under the sink. Two light weight frying pans, cutting board, and two small 'cookie sheets' ride in the oven.

There is a thermocouple at the back of the oven that could become dislodged. That may be the reason they say not to do it. Ours did once, but it was easy to reattach.

I gutted the oven on my last rig cuz I found it quite useless for anything other than storage.

Another vote here for snack / bread / asst goodie storage. Pots and pans go under kitchen counter in our trailer.

Never crossed my mind to store stuff in there. I think I may try that. I don't think I'd put anything heavy in there. Like someone else said pots and pans go on the floor. In our case, in the plastic tubs that came with the trailer under the dinette seats.

In our previous trailer the cast iron skillet along with a couple of round baking pans got stored in the oven. On the first trip with the new trailer the skillet exited the oven sometime during the one hour trip. It's now stored on the floor under the bench seating. Lightweight baking pans are in the oven now. They travel OK.

I think DW stores a couple of the larger pans in the oven and the rest under the sink. A warning would be to not expect the oven racks to support a lot of weight especially while on the road. DW packs coffee maker and various counter top items in the double sink on the kitchen island. One of the sink wells shattered after a long road trip and upon exam I discovered exactly how thin the plastic. My point is that as we strive to find innovating ways to store our items and the oven makes a lot of sense given that many don't use it as an oven very often. Just don't think you can treat these spaces like a storage bunker. Any empty space inside an RV is fair game.

We put the cast iron in the oven once or twice, but always wrapped in a big towel to keep it from "exiting" as gloryb found out it is like to do on those slick oven racks...

Most often, the heavy stuff just sat on the floor when we were traveling.

We don't have a gas oven in the Seneca... I miss it. We used our gas oven a LOT. The convection/micro is awful. It gets the job done, but takes 2-3x as long, even when set to the same temp.

My bread and buns go in the microwave. I have a cast iron square skillet that ride in the oven. I wait till I get to camp before lighting the oven pilot. I found out that the small flame of the pilot will heat the cast iron up enough to make you want a pot holder when you grab it.

I removed the oven altogether and put the microwave in its place. Pots & pans stay under the dinette seating. The microwave slot is huge and makes a great pantry. We use 2 portable butane burners both inside or outside on the picnic table, on occasion it goes to the beach.

I don't recall us ever storing things in the oven. My unit has a ton of storage. Just the two baking sheets we use for oven cooking.

We have stored a baking sheet and 2 cast iron pans in the oven.
Have noticed that the smaller pan riding inside the larger one has worn a divot in the bottom of the larger one as it will not sit flat and all the weight is on the base of the handle resting on the rim of the larger pan and a small portion of the base sits in the bottom of the larger pan.
Concentration of weight on a small area+constant movement while travelling=abrasive effect. Towel wrapped smaller pan has alleviated the divot getting any larger.
Have never had the pans slide out of the oven, and we travel some pretty serious washboard and pothole surfaces in the back woods. We also don't turn on the pilot until we are actually going to use the oven.

We don't store anything in the oven, travelling or parked. Pots/pans go as close to the floor as possible otherwise they'll end up there. Inside the trailer is like a bouncy castle when moving (GoPro video)
