Power and boondocking

We have a hummingbird 10 RK. We are traveling from North Alabama to Colorado in June. Struggling with appropriate size generator for the AC at night. We are pulling the 10 RK with a 2018 Ram 1500 with about 30000 miles(5.7L). Any thinks for upkeep or prep before we travel?

June is barely Spring in Colorado, the nights in the mountains can still be very cool and you probably won’t need the AC. A 2500 watt generator when paired with a soft start switch installed on your AC unit should be plenty.

Keep in mind that as you start climbing in elevation the air thins, your truck, engine and transmission will work significantly harder. Watch your EGT’s and transmission temps towing over high mountain passes!!

As long as you do your regular maintenance, you should be fine.

One thing, I would recommend, is cleaning the exterior of your radiator. Using your garden hose (no pressure washer) and hose down the outside of it. This will get the dust, bugs and dirt off of it and it will cool your engine more efficiently.
