Have you tried lubricating all the moving parts??? We have a power awning on our 2014 Eagle and just keep it lubed with a good silicone spray and have had no problems.

If you have 2 people have one push up on the roller tube while the other holds the switch in.. Mine hates the first 6" of travel then is OK I replaced the motor last spring and the new one is doing the same thing after a few days so that was a waste of money.

The motors are on the end cap of usually the front facing arm. If your strong arms are rusting or too rigid it could be adding addtional pressure on the motor. Lubing them and moving the awing in and out while doing so could help.

What brand power awning is it? If Dometic do you notice a severe bowing where the arms are mounted on the bottom pivot point while moving? If so your arms could be the issue and need replacement.

Are your arms adjustable? If so make sure the star locks are completely loose or this will put added stress on the arms which could result in a failure.

Could also be a bad electrical connection somewhere in the system causing low voltage to the motors. Check any connections you can to make sure they a mated securely and there is no corrosion.

The motors are weak on the awnings. When mine sounds like it is going to give up. I clean the slides very well, and lubricate them with Tri-Flow, but spray silicone works too. That is where I would start. Next check the voltage at the motor, you'll need to remove the cover and have someone press the button, while using a voltmeter. Watch out for pinch points. Also your unit should have came will a long jumper cable for powering the awning from a vehicle battery. Look for it, and try using it. That should tell you if you do not have enough power available to the motor. Corroded power connections could easily causing to much resistance for the motor.

If all the mechanical bits are lubed and working well then the electrical portion is the next thing to check and the first thing on that check list should be the ground wire.
Let us know what is turns out to be.

good info, my arms do bow when its out, it also struggles trying to go out, so I will check the motor, can you access the motor while in or out, does it matter, also, one thing I didn't mention, it seems llike after it rains is when the problem occurs.

2014, hopefully still under warranty. Take it in. Has it always done it? Our 2014 power awning doesn't struggle going out or in... And I have never lubed it.

its under warranty till 2016, and no it has not always done it, we leave it on our own land, and last weekend, it wouldn't go out, sometime during the week, we got 3" of rain, so the sun was out the next day, and it went out, I think water might be part of the problem, I will do some looking this weekend, when we get up there.

Fastercat, we have a newer travel trailer and about 4 months ago, the awning was having problems so bad that someone had to help roll it up 2 or 3 trips in a row. Search for a recall on-line for your awning motor. It depends on the motor model and date of manufacture. Because of my discussion on the phone calling Dometic's recall number - found on-line also, they shipped a new motor to a local mobile shop, and they installed it at no cost to me in my driveway. Whole process took a week. I could have taken it to the dealer but that would have been a hassle - not to mention a potential run-around. Good luck!

Don't forget, those awnings did have a recall not long ago. Assuming you have the 9100 power awning. Mine didn't fall under recall on our last rig, but still had to replace the motor due to failure. Very easy to do actually.

Here's a link to it, or you can just search for 9100 awning recall.

Process on ours took less than 24 hours. Call to dometic, overnighted to mobile repair (They will if you request it and they have in stock), awning fixed next day. Cost me a whole $50 I think, but it was hot, and I wanted my shade right then.

"we leave it on our own land"

Do you have power at your land to keep the battery charged?
Mine will run slow if it's been sitting without power.

A low voltage condition could also do damage to the motor.

yes we have full hookups on our own land, my dealer ordered me a new motor under warranty, last weekend was very hot, so me an the wife, manually got the awning out, not an easy task, but on labor day it was storming, and we couldn't put it in, so hopefully my awning will still be there when I go back up in 2 weeks.

I noticed the arms on my awning have a slight bow to them as well but it works perfect. Maybe from the previous owner not unlocking the star wheels..idk.
