Power cord question

When you need to use an extension to reach the power pole do you guys do anything to cover/weatherproof the plug or just lay it on the ground and let it go?

I've always just plugged it in and never worried about it.

We put ours up on a block or rock at least 3” - I don’t want it in a puddle of water if it rains or sprinklers “ flood “ the area but I don’t cover or wrap it Les

I've never had a problem with plugging an extension cord in and just leaving it lay on the ground but my wife was nervous about it. She found an idea on Pinterest that I use for her sanity.

I bought a Tupperware type food container large (tall) enough to contain the connection between the two cords. I cut out enough room for the cord to pass through one side and another cutout for the the other cord to pass through the other side. I snapped the lid on after making the electrical connection. I flipped the container upside down to keep water from collecting in the bowl portion of the container. It stayed dry inside during even the heavier rains.

It's best that electrical connections be kept clean and dry. Corroded or dirty connections cause resistance and therefore heat, which in extreme cases can melt the plugs.

OP: If your question was whether or not people have trouble resulting from their lack of due care, I would submit that after you know the risk it's really up to you.
