We had two in ours this weekend. One stayed in all weekend. We named him Steve. We were sparring this morning for a while. He was kinda fun. We set him free before leaving today.

Once upon a time in a land far far away there lived the handsome hunk. I’ll call him Shorty! Shorty’s family was preparing for the Christmas season and unlike his neighbors and Wal-Mart, Shorty’s family had waited until after Thanksgiving to purchase a real tree and decorate. While decorating the tree, Shorty noticed a “pod”,” cocoon”, a something “bug made” on one of the branches. Shorty clipped the branch off and placed it in a jar, then set the jar in the window at the kitchen sink and forgot about it. One morning long after Christmas, Shorty was washing dishes when he noticed movement in the jar. Upon closer inspection, the “pod” was producing baby Praying Mantis. Over the next few days, that pod produced several. (Shorty didn’t count but would estimate at least fifty which on a daily basis were released into the backyard, and all lived happily ever after.)

Shorty

Male mantises don't exactly have good luck. They "get lucky" once, then get eaten after or even during mating.
