Price when new

My insurance agent wants to know how much our trailer cost when it was new. Since I didn't buy it new and it didn't come with original sales documentation, I really don't have the foggiest idea.

NADA Online gives a "Suggested List Price" of $21,454. Are the NADA figure accurately comparable to the base price for the trailer when it was brand new?

Or is this something I need to ask Jayco, based on my serial number?

The NADA is probably a current value. I would think that the actual price when new would vary somewhat with different dealers. Perhaps Jayco could provide a suggested manufacturer's list price, but they might not have that figure in their files. I wonder why the insurance agent is insisting on a price when new - they don't usually need that when insuring a car - just the current replacement value. So why not the same for a trailer ? When we added our 5er to our State Farm policy, they insured it based on current, not new, value, and what it would likely cost to replace it with a similar make, model, and year.

Not sure why they would even care about cost when new... but they use that figure in rating the policy. It's a membership co-op insurance company and they have some strange ways.

Mine (State Farm) asked the same thing. I hadnt a clue but was basically told to give an estimated figure as if were new then a current value so they could write up the policy.

This is right off the NADA site:

Suggested List — The value listed reflects the approximate price of the unit when it is brand new. The prices listed are furnished by the manufacturer and are assumed to be correct. The list price does not include freight charges

Grumpy is right. NADA uses the original MSRP when new to calculate current value.
