Progressive comes through again

I purchased my original PI portable 30A EMS about 8 years ago. That one failed around 5 years later and PI replaced it with the newer unit with the weather shield. First trip out this year I went to plug in the EMS and heard a thud. No power, no display no nothing. Plugged it in again and not even a thud. When I unplugged it I heard water sloshing around and sure enough the unit had about an inch of water in it. Took the unit apart, drained out the water and let everything dry out for 2 days. Put it back together and still nothing so I assume one of the boards or transformer[?] shorted out. Not sure how the water got in because these things are sealed pretty tight but did notice when taking the unit apart, one of the screws was rusted. I don't store the unit in my camper when not in use because of theft possibilities so it's stored in my garage. Anyway, my new one should be here in 5 or 6 days. Kudos to Progressive Industries for again standing behind their product.

Great Service PI.

We have changed our camping styles over the years. We have a couple 2 gallon water coolers. I had them in the garage one with the top valve open and one with the valve closed. Jump in time a few years, I was doing some cleaning, and move the water coolers. The one with the valve closed had a few inches of water in it. The other was bone dry. I suspect moisture in the air migrated in, condensed and could not escape. I now keep all my coolers ajar when in storage.

I had a 50a ems from Progressive that I purchased used and 2nd hand. It got water in it and stopped working. After it dried out, it worked just fine again but I had already replaced it with a Bulldog unit.

I think the moisture got in from the screw-on connectors on the portable unit. If you have them, check the tightness of those connectors often.

Progressive would not warranty it unless I had purchased it from them new.

I have always used Progressive Industries EMS systems in all my campers. I decided years ago to go hardwired mostly for ease of use and not having to worry about the external one. I have found them to Be an outstanding company that provides top notch customer service!

I normally put a black trash bag over the pedestal. We use a Hughes Watchdog which works great but it the light on the faces stands out like a sore thumb at night. In addition to protection from the weather, the trash bag helps dim glow of the Watchdog.

I have the Hughes Power Watchdog hard wired model. It works great for me. I like being able to see status and reset shut downs from my phone. I’m not a fan of the bright light. It would annoy me except I installed mine in the cabinet behind the power converter. The light isn’t visible.
