BRANDON, Miss. —
A camper caught fire Thursday morning at an RV park in Rankin County. The fire in the 34-foot bumper-pull camper was reported about 4 a.m. at Shady Pines RV Park on Vernon Jones Avenue, authorities said.
The owners of the RV park said in their 35 years of renting lots, they have never seen anything quite like this Reservoir Fire Department officials said when the owner of the camper looked outside her window and saw flames, she got her dog and got out. Neither she nor her dog were hurt.
"She smelled propane in the house and when she went to go open the window, she said a fire went up the wall," Deputy Fire Chief Josh Swales said. "By the time we got there, it was three-quarters engulfed." Firefighters extinguished the flames, but not before the camper was destroyed.
Swales said the fire was sparked by a propane heater that was installed Wednesday.
"She did lose everything, as far as clothes go, and she got out with her and her dog and her keys to her car, and that was it," Swales said.
Hmmmmm, new heater installed yesterday. Wonder who did the install, sounds like maybe a handyman to me?
