I'd invest in and take along a Honda EU2000 generator to do the battery charging for you - it will come in handy often down the road.
I think you'll have plenty of propane on one full 20lb tank (15-16 actual lbs). Our normal operating mode is to turn on the heat around dinner time, and then off around breakfast time - we like to keep fresh air circulating during the day, even if it's cool.
If you want to avoid using the furnace to save the battery, you can take a long a "Little Buddy" catalytic propane heater. It can go through a small can of propane (1lb) each night (~8hours worth), but it's a good backup to have just in case, too.
I would not want to trickle charge using the truck engine. You'll have to sit in it and keep the RPM's up high enough to push a charge out to the trailer. If you just idle, you could drain the truck battery, too.
