Propane Tank Level Indication

Over the years I've seen something that helps me determine when it's time to change propane tanks. A day or so before a tank runs empty, I've noticed that the color of the burner flame on my stovetop becomes much more orange and yellow. I'm not sure why it changes color (pressure change, impurities from the bottom of the tank?), but without fail, if I see the color change and don't change tanks, the propane will run dry in a day or two. There's still enough propane to run the fridge and furnace, but it's definitely close to the end.

Just thought I'd pass this on. It's been a reliable indicator for me.

Bill,

Thanks, for the tip. We have been using the tried and true version of the sputtering flame and then poof it is gone, or the heater igniter clicking in the middle of the night. Will have to keep my eyes open.
