Propane Usage

I'm in the middle of a 2 1/2 month stay in a 37' Jayco Eagle 5th wheel in colder weather (40's high and upper 20's low). How many days of using a 30# tank of propane for heating and some cooking should one expect. At this time, I have gotten as few as 3 days and as many as 5 days.

Thats about right, you have a large RV. Oviously more you run the furnace the more propane you use. Cooking uses very little.

Check around the park you are in for references. Some LP dealers will rent tanks for short periods. Either 100 LB tanks or 110 gallon tanks that will be much cheaper to heat off of.

Should supplement during the day with an electric heater then save your propane for nighttime heating to keep the underbelly warm and tanks from freezing.

Always used elec heaters day & night and never had any issues. Kept a 60 watt light bulb in the utility bay.

3 ro 5 days sounds about right. If I recall there is about 600 BTU capacity in a 30 pound tank.

Are you paying for electric where you are staying? If not I would stop by Walmart or the like a tend pick up at least one portable electric heater. If you have 50 amp shore power should be able to run two easily, on two different circuits.

You left off a few zeros...about 600,000 BTU in a 30 lb tank.

Actually there is 21,591 BTU per lb of LP
or 91,547 per gallon.

We all know a 30 lb tank does not contain 30 lbs...they are only filled about 80% by law.

In winter, my 6 gal tank lasts about 6 days in my 19ft TT

Thanks to all the info and suggestions. We do use our electric fire place at times to supplement the propane heat. Since we pay for electric usage, I haven't determined which is more cost affective. Several campers who are here for the winter have the large LP tanks from a local LP dealer and do pay about $.50 less per gallon. We plan to stay here until Christmas before we depart for Florida for the winter. If I had known when we first arrived here, how much propane we would use, I would have rented the large propane tank. But at this point, I will pay the higher price for refilling my 30# tanks 6 or 7 more times.

You are correct, I ment to put a K behind the number.

Try being in a PU, you can go through a 20 pounder in 24 hours.

Actually when a 30 lbs tank it 80% full it does contain 30 lbs of propane
