Propane valve

Does anyone know of a propane valve, that switches between tanks, that will not let propane flow if it’s not hooked up to both tanks. It would be nice to remove one tank and still be able to use the other tank without the propane from the remaining tank going out the disconnected hose.

I'm not an expert, but that's how ours works, and assumed that was standard.
We have one similar to this- https://www.marshallexcelsior.com/2-...4-inv-x-38-fpt

It automatically switches over when one tank is empty, and lets us take the empty off to refill with no interruption.

It seems like that’s the way it should work, but mine doesn’t work like that. Thanks.

Have you checked if yours is operating as designed? It could be defective.

If I turn on the valve on one tank and the other tank isn’t hooked up, the gas comes out the hose that isn’t hooked up.

You have a bad changeover regulator.

Keep in mind that on some (maybe many) automatic changeover valves there are three positions, left tank, right tank, or middle position which allows propane to flow from both tanks (I am not sure why someone would choose that).

In any case, verify that the tank selector valve is set fully to the left or right tank and not somewhere in between because if the selector valve is not turned completely towards one tank or the other, then the propane would (could) escape from the pigtail hose when disconnecting one of the tanks and the other tanks still has propane in it. ~CA

I did try it any several positions and I got the same result.

That may be the problem. Since this is the only problem I’ve had so far, I consider myself lucky. I’ve seen some of the problems others have had. It works fine with both tanks, just not when one is removed. Maybe time to replace the bad part.

Is yours one of the Winntec 6020 regulators that have been recalled?

I would have to look at it to see if it is. The trailer isn’t kept at my house.
