Propane valve leak

I have a 2016 redhawk 26xd. When opening the main propane valve I get a quick puff of propane leaking around the valve stem. After opening I did not get any bubbles on a soap test. Is this normal?

No, that is not normal. If you are smelling it that means there is a leak somewhere in the operation of that valve which will only get worse as time goes by. Have the valve replaced.

Thanks, no smell, just Felt a quick puff of propane vapor along with the cooling vaporization. Open and closed several time after that with no issue.

Our old '97 would always leak a bit when opening. Once opened all the way, it never leaked. Ran that way for 14 years. You might run it by a propane place and see if they have any idea if it's safe.

I carry an electronic propane leak detector. It puts you on a leak quickly.

My previous RV did that as well, as Revy stated for his, mine did it for many years and did so when I sold the RV. You can purchase replacement valves from Amazon if ever needed. If you do, be sure to get the one for a 40# tank (or whatever size tank you have). I wouldn't replace it though if it doesn't leak when all the way open unless it leaks a lot when opening as in that case it would likely get worse with time. ~CA
