PSA - Generator Placement

We have only camped with our TT powered by my generator 1 time, at a crafts show where we stayed overnight in the field next to the event. My DW, was insistent that I locate the generator at least 20 feet from TT because the “PSA ON TELEVISION SAID THAT IF YOU USE A GENERATOR AT YOUR HOME DURING POWER OUTAGE THAT IT MUST BE AT 20 FEET FROM THE DWELLING DUE TO EXHAUST FUMES INHALATION”.
I know many 5thWheels have on board generators as does most Motorhomes, the generators are “built-in” and certainly not 20 feet away to deter fume inhalation. Am I missing something?
Any knowledgeable input would be appreciated.

If my wife put that on me.....I'd say "yes dear, you are right. what was I thinking?"....and move the generator.

Obviously, I did just that. I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but almost 45 years of marriage to the same sweetheart, I’ve learned a few things. “Happy Wife=Happy Life”

Compromise is disagreeing with your wife and doing what she wants anyways.

I have the Cummins gen built into my 2005 Jayco Greyhawk. I've used it several times at night. Never had issues with fumes. It it were an issue, wouldn't there have been a recall on them by now?

Most motorhome builders mount the generators in an open compartment that is well ventilated. In addition, the areas surrounding the coach generators are sealed to protect from weather as well as keeping fumes from entering. Also, unlike a stand alone unit, coach generators have an exhaust system much like your car that carries the exhaust away from the coach.

With a portable unit, I try to get it as far away from the trailer as possible. I've never had an issue, but if I have the space and I'm already running an extension, I try to take advantage of as much distance as possible. You just never can be too safe.
