The one I got was a threaded female brass to pvc, then a " street 45"a 1" pce of 1/2 pvc and the valve. I installed dry, made sure it all worked then glued it permentally. Work like a charm. Larry

Any reason to go with a 45 degree elbow from the tank?

water heater drain

I needed to get by an obstruction. There is a pic on the forum just a few days ago. Should be in the Hybred section. That is what I had when someone built it.

May want to consider CPVC rather than PVC it has a much higher pressure and temperature rating.


I like to pull the plug and than flush the tank with my little plastic nozzle to get all the hard water scale out.

I used a Nylon threaded nipple, same material that the factory plug was.

Used a full-port ball valve.
