Question about LED's and winter storage

Hi friends,

Question. I am getting ready to put my trailer in winter storage. Get's cold up here, -30 is not out of the question. Are my LED's Ok with that kind of cold for a long time? Should I simply remove them? They weren't cheap.

I leave mine in and it gets that cold (with no problems).
ooops. I just saw the minus sign in front of the 30 . It doesn't get THAT cold here but I still see no reason that cold weather would harm an LED.

Your LED's will be fine. Mine have been in that cold of a temperature. In fact, my snow machine trailer is outfitted with LED lights all the way around and they operate just fine in temps that cold.

I actually called the manufacturer of the ones in my unit and they said they were good to -30 but to just unplug them .

I have had LED taillights and signal light and marker lights in my truck and never had a problem with it in the cold... even down to -40..

Ditto - that's the great part about solid state devices. They're pretty impervious to most conditions. I've even switched my outdoor (stick) house lights to LED. And we too get temps to -30F (-35C) pretty routinely. Outside house, boat trailer, RV - all have LED's, without any issue....

I had a couple of times years ago, where traditional bulbs shattered on startup outside (very cold glass with a hot filament inside). And fluorescents just won't even flicker when they get too cold. But LED's always just work.

That's the great thing about the changeover from CFL's to LED's in the home market. Nearly impervious to cold. CFL's in outdoor lights often fail in our -40 overnights, but LEDs keep working fine. Keep in mind that in an RV they won't be operating at that temperature; just stored. No problems at all leaving them in place.

Unless you soak them in liquid nitrogen and hit 'em with a hammer, your LED's will be fine.


They will tolerate anything Earth's atmosphere can dish out.
