Question about using a macerator pump Vs the stinky slinky

Placement of the sewer input at too many campgrounds is often a problem. But I recently experienced the double whammy of the sewer input being a crazy distance away and being almost 15 inches above ground level. So, I started wondering if using a macerator pump could be a viable replacement for the old stinky slinky. I am mostly interested in your experience with the convenience of the pump versus the convenience of the slinky. At each stop at a campground, is the pump more convenient or less convenient to set up and break down than using the slinky?

I've never used a regular one. Ours came with a sanicon.

You'll like it. Easy to use, no bridges to build. It pumps as far as you want with a 3/4 garden hose extension. When you buy one, make sure you get the protective sleeve for the hose.

Same here! I don't even own a stinky slinky. If forever reason I my Sanicon quits working, I can buy a stinky slinky just about anywhere. I do carry an extra Sanicon hose just in case I can't reach the sewer. That's only happened once.

I have used a Sewer Solution for almost 20 years. It’s like a cousin to a macerator but doesn’t need a motor. The adapter to the grey/black discharge (they call it the “pump”) has a water jet which pushes the waste down a 1” (or so) tube to the sewer adapter and breaks up the solids. I carry 3 10’ sections of drain tube but majority of the time a single section is long enough. The 30’ reach allows me to dump from my storage spot and will pump uphill if needed. I’ve replaced the O-rings in the pump once.

For 1/5 the cost of a Sanicon, that's a very nice setup with no motor to burn out!!

i've been using a $60 Macerator pump i got off Ebay for last two years and will never go back to a slinky. I also have two 20' sections of 1" pond hose (w/ bayonet quick connects) from HomeDepo. Comes in very handy when boon-docking & when you need to make Black Tank dump runs using the Camco portable tank in your truck bed. Also very handy to make sneak dumps in porta potties. (some camping locations actually permit it). Also very useful at home to dump in my sewer clean out chute.

Only down fall to this system, you need a water source with a good water pressure for it's use. Most city codes (in calif) require no more that 15-20 lb water pressure to new water hookups. I have 18lbs at my new home, not enough to wash a vehicle, unless you want to stand out there for an hour. I've seen people use them in RV parks and they work well when you have a good water source.... Defiantly not good for the boon-dockers.

If you use a 3/4-inch hose for the macerator's output, do you just stick the end of the hose into the park's sewer input, or is there a connector that fits the 3/4-inch hose and the park's sewer input that provides a seal?

tld, Just put the garden hose in the park's sewer input. Place it so it won't pop out once the stuff starts flowing.

For over 20 years, we had a trailer permanently parked is a membership campground with no sewer. When the black tank was full, I used a macerator pump to get the contents from the tank to the 32 gallon prtable tank that was then pulled to the dump station.

Being as the trailer was old, the pump was powered by an extra 12 volt battery. The short "stinky slink" hose was hooked to a clear extension with a sprayer like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Valterra-F02-...582854&sr=8-17

...so the black water tank could be given a good douche after emptying. The macerator does a nice job of pumping 50 or more feet through a 3/4 inch, or larger, garden hose. Be sure that absolutely nothing but pee, poop and TP goes into your toilet!

You would be surprised what one friggin Q-tip can do to make your macerator inoperable as you are part way emptying the tank.

Don't ask how I know.

you can stick the hose in the dump chute but Camco makes a chute cone with a hose adapter to lock it in at the RV Parks. That will avoid 'stink' complaints.

this is what i use:https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories...ontent=General
