Question on Dual Propane Tank Mount

My x17z came with one 30 pound propane tank. I'm thinking about converting to two 20 pound tanks. (The extra tongue weight, about 20 lbs including hardware, will not be a problem.)

There is a dual tank mounting bracket available through most RV parts sales departments that consists of a base, threaded center rod, hold down bracket, and a wing nut for securement. You can buy each piece separately, or the entire unit. The price of the unit is cheaper than the materials necessary to make a similar conversion.

I like the idea of it, but before I get started I would like your opinion. Does anyone have experience with this type of product? Or, are there alternatives I would like to know about?

Thank you,
OnTheGo

What you are describing is pretty much standard equipment for a double tank installation and sounds like what I have only for two 30 lb tanks instead. Of course you would need additional propane hose and fittings for the second tank, not sure if your regulator can be converted to double tank or not.

Single tank means run out of propane at the worst possible moment. Make the Mod you wont regret it... I have done that on every RV I have ever had that came with one tank...

That is my standard set-up. Except with an automatic switch-over regulator.

If the added weight wouldn't be too much, adding a second 30 lb. tank might be cheaper.

You will most likely need a regulator set up for dual tanks. You already have one 30 lb tank if it were me I would look for another. Two 30 lb tanks are just a few pounds more than a pair of 20's.

OnTheGo, you wouldn't HAVE to get the dual tank hose setup. You could just switch the connector from the empty tank to the full one when needed.

I have two tanks, but not the automatic switchover regulator, so I have to remove the cover, close one valve and open the other when a tank runs out. It wouldn't be much more effort to switch the connector, too.

It would save you a few bucks, too!

I know a lot of folks like the auto cutover. Personally, I don't because I want to know when I go over to my second tank. Having said that - I have never run out at 3 am lol.....maybe that would change my mind but I doubt it.

We have the auto switch on our regulator and don't use that feature. I want to know when one tank has emptied so we never are totally out of propane.

I do not have the autochangeover either, I just leave one tank turned off so I know I always have a full tank.

My Auto changeover indicates when it switches tanks. All you have to do is peak in the access door ever once and a while and have a look if the indicater is red or not. I just check it every time I pack up at a camp site.

OffTheGround, with your access door I assume you have a 5er. I have to pull off the tank cover and it fits real tight and close to the front of the trailer. It actually rubbs the front cap if I am not careful.

When we run out I switch tanks and immediately remove the empty tank. That way I don't forget to fill it. If we were weekend campers I would probabbly do it differently.

Clutch, I have a X213. Two 20lb tanks mounted out in the open on the tough of the trailer. They are covered with a white hard plastic shroud with a small access door on the top for turning the tanks on and off. I'm just a nice weather weekender so we don't use to much propane, just enough to cook and maybe a few tanks of hot water here and there. Once I notice that the indicator changes, that tanks gets pulled out and fill right away. Like everyone elses concern, I don't want to be left completely empty.

My last TT had the cover with an access door on top, makes it easy to turn on/off the valves. Here`s one similar
