Questions from a Parts Rep...

Hey Jolly Jayco Owners,

As you folks know.. I am a parts rep at a Jayco dealer (and the only guy that actually camps...). I am getting ready to head to our annual buying show, to get my store stocked and check out new stuff.

Just kind of throwing this out there... Sooooo.. What kind of things are you all seeing out camper land that are must haves, needs, wants desires, wish I had thought of that, type items?

This is my first year working at an RV dealer, but 12th year camping. I know what I like.. but just wondering if you all have noticed anything in your travels. The "pulse" of the people. Any input would he helpful!

Thanks!

John

HI John
I am big on boondocking so my list includes LED lights, solar panels, inverters, batteries, charge controllers, "blue boys", water bladders, and maciator pumps. SOLAR lights for the outside of my RV.

I like to cook outside, I spend a lot of time in the outdoor cooking areas of the sporting good stores, so...

Camp grills, stoves, tables, dutch ovens, innovations using charcoal and cooking on the camp fire. The kind of cooking gear that doesn't use electricity or conventional kitchen (residential) cooking

And Ditto to Seann, anything to preserve or restore battery life for boondocking

I like coking supplies as well, however I am on the other side we always go to campgrounds that have full hook ups so I like gadgets that you can run off of electricity or 20 lb propane tanks. I also like things/gamers that keep the kids occupied

The one thing I would like to find is some way to organize my cabinets better. It seems like all my dishes, cups, pots, pans and stuff in my overhead cabinets are always tossed when we get to camp. I would love to make or find some method to compartmenttize (SP?) the larger overhead cabinets.

Thanks for asking what we as campers would like as accessories in out TTs.

But seriously, storage add-ons. Things like trailer tray, bike racks, chair holders, pickup attachments like kayak carriers, etc.

Sweet. Thanks for the input! Not trying to sell here.. just looking for ideas for the store. First year running it, and a bit nervous.

My dealer gives a 10% parts discount card to customers who buy their TT from them. Not what you asked....but it keeps me shopping there.

Any kind of organizational item is great. If I was you I would do a search on camping world of their "top sellers".. That would tell you quite a bit about what is selling.

Thanks! I did ask our suppliers what the "hot sellers" are.. however.. The answer I got back was RV toilet paper and chemicals.

Worst thing about RV's is RV toilet paper.... Maybe you should look at carrying the Costco "Kirkland" brand TP. Septic safe and much nicer on the butt.

I use a lot of wire shelves from Wallys. I would like something that was closer in fit to my cabinets. something to put near the hitch to keep the chains off the ground but not scratch the paint and hopefully dry--in addition or seperate something better/bigger than the rubber horseshoe thing that slides over the front of the hitch so I don't bang the **** out of my shins--a way to hang stuff in my pass through storage without guessing where/how deep to drill--wheel covers that are snug but breathable instead of that flannel backing that stays wet--a wall mounted lamp that would pull down or flex down somehow to read something

Every time I pull off the spare tire cover to check the tire presssure the bottom of the cover is wet, and some of the backing pulls off the cover and sticks to the tire, I just hate that. Here is a possible solution, a mesh spare tire cover. http://www.tire-covers.com/catalog/p...ver-p-909.html

Here is another one, when we purchased the camper the salesman talked up the big deal about throwing in a "starter kit". This was a cheap piece of sewer hose that was usless in hooking up the drain, and some other cheap usless crap. I opened the box dumped out the parts, collected them up and threw them in the trash. Complete waste of money by the dealer, and frustrating for the customer. I would have rather have them throw in a discount (like stated in another post above) or an actually usefull item. So don't waste your money on the junky starter kits, I bet most of us just throw them away. I then went to Walmart and purchased a real sewer hose, I bypassed the dealer on this purchase because I was frustrated with them in the junk they gave me.

a battery box strap that you can keep tight, yet be able to open it without a fight--a big one for me; a way to put pictures, artwork, notes on the front of the fridge; Nana needs to see her baby's pics when she is camping; I've tried velcro and several types of tape; looks crappy and doesn't stick
