Angry Rainer 16"Tires

Just wondering if anyone else out there has had problems with the Rainer Tires that come on the Jayco Pinnacle 5th wheels.... Mine isn't 8 months old less than 2500 miles ... And 2 tires formed bubbles ...

Contacted Jayco and wanted to replace all of them because we don't fill confident going on trips with them ... I did on my own ... Got rid of the China tires and bought 4 Goodyear614 for the safety of my family!

You did the right thing! Ours had bubbles the first trip less than 175 miles from home. Replaced them with 17.5 Sailuns and new rims too. Original rims only rated for 80 psi.

Did you attempt a warranty claim on those tires with such low usage?

Yes they were warrantied but Jayco replaced them with Rainiers so I replaced them myself and sold the Rainiers to a farmer to use on his wagons.

Rainer 16" tires

Smart to switch them out. I also replaced all four new tires after I had a blowout on the second day of my first road trip with my new fiver. (Perfect 80 lbs pressure, 65 mph cruise control & under load limit). I was kicking myself because I had read about folks' issues but I thought "Surely they will last one trip!" WRONG! Took out some fender trim pieces when it happened too. Jayco just sent me to the Rainer warranty to get the tire replaced (which I don't want those tires again!) and refused to help on the body damage. I feel like Jayco is knowingly putting new customers on the road with the bare minimal rubber that simply won't handle the real world of these rigs.

Love the trailer overall but the tires are the weak link!

Sorry to hear about your issues. I have the Rainer 15's at just 12 months old. We just towed it from the Badlands to Orlando in 3 days with fairly high temperatures and I watched the tires and tire pressure like a hawk on the way down, fortunately no bubbles and no noticeable pressure variance between the tires. Based on some other previous post on here, I was honestly expecting problems. We kept it at 64,65 on cruise, never exceeded the max speed tolerance. Let me tell you, that was rough thru South Dakota with a speed limit of 80, killed our time. I would never tow a trailer that high, but 70 would be nice when your chewing off that many miles in 1 day.

I have over 4k on my 28BHBE in one season, no problems thus far. Keep in mind, they might be made in China but Jayco bought them and put them on your trailer!

I think that is the point of the discussion. After all, they have to get them off the factory floor and to the dealer somehow.

My next door neighbor has a new Pinnacle that HAD Rainer tires. He made a round trip to AZ. When he got home all 4 tires were deformed. Lucky no blowout. He replaced them with Maxxis 8008. I have a new set of Goodyear Marathons on mine after 2 blowouts in 8 miles with Towmax. Going to sell the Goodyear and go to Maxxis. I would change those tires right away. Too much damage and safety problems to take a chance on the tires.

We bought a new 23RB with 15 inch Rainier's on it last month , before our first trip with it to the San Juans of Colorado I replaced the wheels and tires with 235/75R15 Generals . Will use the Chinaman tires on a couple of old utility trailers that hardly ever get used .

3,000 miles on mine before the first tire developed a large bubble on the inside of the tire. I don't understand how Jayco can justify putting something like this on trailers of this price range (80K). The tires are the foundation of the unit and I'm sure we would all be more than happy to give Jayco $300-$500 more for the peace of mind!!! Tires and the frame are not areas that any mfg should try to save money in my opinion. Jayco needs to listen to the customer more and worry a little less about cutting cost and competing with lower end units.

I left those tires at the dealership and put the first mile on the camper with G614s.

In my opinion, it's the Ford Pinto mentality. Until someone gets killed and/or the lawsuit costs exceed the cost savings they are enjoying by putting those rubber bands on their new trailers, nothing will change.

I'm about to pay for body work on my new 5th wheel that happened as a result of the blowout. Jayco dodges any responsibility and simply refers me to the Ranier warranty to replace the tire. I told them no thanks, I already have a good tire swing in the backyard.
