We do both in our setup when camping off the power grid... Just the two of us and one small dog- kids all gone now... DVDs is the ultimate PLAN B backup plan. We also watch alot of high def TV using the OTA antenna pulling in the local towns over the Natl Broadcast digital TV. That works for us just about everywhere we camp at here on the east side of the US. usually get between 6-36 digital channels. Also good to watch NCIS and Hawaii 5-0 way back in the woods.

Being avid back woods campers from the 60s we certainly appreciate the new modern things these campers on wheels have to offer.

We also still go tent camping on occasions as once you get that in your blood you got to keep doing it haha... Of course even tent camping has gone very modern now.. Battery bank in the back of the truck using inverter powers all of our 120VAC appliances we have with us. Run the generator everyday at 8AM from the back of the truck to keep the batteries re-charged just like at the other off-road camping sites with the POPUP. Our tent beds are those that have the folding frames and air mattress slips into the frame to sleep on. Very comfortable sleeping until the air density changes in the early morning hours and you almost disappear into the mattress haha... Have to reach over and hit the air pump...

We have the M A S H DVD's in the camper and Big Bang Theory for TV time. Over air TV is all old stuff from when I was a "Little" kid. Still good to watch now and then. When my kids come for a visit we MUST watch Casper.

cm11559ps! You just gave me an idea! Thanks!

We have quite a few 'family movies' vcr tapes we hope to one day put on dvd. We have transfered some already. I just spoke with Ray and the next time we head out for a couple of weeks we can bring a few more tapes to transfer as well as watch. When we camp again with the older grandkids, we can bring a couple of those dvd's with their mom from when she was a kid. They actually enjoy watching when she was a kid

(We tried a trial run of Netflix this last month when we camped for two weeks, but we were far enough in a hole that my hotspot didn't have what it needed to stream the movies.)

^^^ Be careful using a hotspot for Netflix as it can burn through your data pretty quickly ^^^

We used to do the burned DVDs too. Now I use an iPod Classic (120GB) and put my movies on that. I have an iPod to HDMI adapter to connect to the tv. The kids have their shows on their iPad Touch and iPad so they can watch them on those or they can connect to the tv too. And the Kindles come along too. But like others have said, it's nice to have a good Plan-B on those rainy days.

I read every weekend. Real books, not digital downloads. We never camped with hook ups when the kids were little, so no movies. I still have a "game" cupboard in the camper. I should remove most of the games, but I still enjoy playing them.

Apparently you have not tried watching TV using an antenna. I watch the ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, etc. There are plenty of "new" programs on over the air television.
