Ram pickups

To the Ram 2500 and 3500 owners, it seems Cummins has been caught cheating on controls of their diesel engines in 3/4 and 1 ton pickup engines. They agreed to and got a fine of $1.67 Billion for it. Some 960,000 Ram pickups 2013-2023 have the engine controls affected. Rumor I heard was that the dealers will be reprogramming the computers. Just guessing here, the reprogramming will result in less HP &Torque.

I heard about this. The last I heard there’s a lot still to be determined. It sure seems logical that there will no doubt be a reduction in power. I’m sure there are lots of owners anxiously waiting on more info. Fortunately my Ram is a gas.

Something similar happened years ago with the Ram eco diesel as well as I believe VW diesel’s and ultimately there was a buy back program offered because there was a huge reduction in power.

What's going to make this real interesting are the trucks that have tuners, or the owners have already removed the emission system. Things could get real ugly since Cummins won't be able to certify the correction. States could be cancelling registrations.

We owned a 2012 VW Jetta Sportwagen turbo diesel. It was so very clean burning the exhaust pipe never showed any black soot, got 45+mpg, and was a blast to drive. It was caught up in the “VW Clean Diesel” fiasco. VW bought it back for more than we paid for it. Hated to see it go, but couldn’t turn down the offer from VW.

Wishing the best to affected Ram owners!

Not gonna lie, I'm in the market to buy a new one ton in about 2 years. That would be fantastic if Ram had to do some sort of buy back of my current truck...

Since it was Cummins and not Dodge/Chrysler, unlike VW who built both, I think it will be interesting on how this is handled.

My bet, (more of a guess) is that Cummins will pay the fine, pass the cost of the fine onto every engine they sell until 150% of those costs are recovered (so the consumers actually pay the fine and legal fees and some bonuses), and then Cummins will (already has perhaps) issue a computer update to each affected unit and provide a certification (perhaps electronically) for each VIN and vehicle that has been updated and that database will go to each state and anywhere a pollution test is required or perhaps upon registration renewal this certification will be required to be in place prior to passing inspection or to obtaining new license tags.

Living in a neighborhood full of former ford, gm, and Chrysler uaw members, masons, carpenters, and teamsters, I feel like I shouldn't comment here on the hencho in mehico stuff. i will say I can toss a rock to the empty lot where the truck and van assembly plants used to be.

I think the 6.7 engines still come out of Columbus Indiana or close by.

Had many trips to and through there on our way to Nashville and Brown County SP. Also used to drive down from Scottsburg when staying at the KOA.

And then the motors are shipped to mexico for installation. They have been on our do not patronize list since they closed the 2 plants putting hundreds of AMERICANS out of work. Got to stop now before I start some kind of political rant.
Know how they say fiat/chrysler in Italian? The chrysler is silent.

Well, I had a 2022 3500 RAM but I was having a lot of problems with it so when they told me that I had a leaking bell housing alone with the heater switch I traded it quickly.

This is gonna get messy... You will have the group, "I ain't taking it in for that recall", not realizing you can't legally sell a car that has a mandatory recall on it (I am sure the EPA will make sure this is mandatory). I am also guessing there will be some form of registration validation too (smog testing).

I wonder if Ford and GM will get caught up in this too, the climbing numbers on these engine ratings would seem that it would be possible they were all fudging on some programming.

Why can't you "legally sell a car" that has a recall? I've never heard of this.
