Random flat batteries while on mains power

Jayco 2009 Sterling Outback. Van has two 6 month old batteries and a Projecta 7 stage charger, also less than 12 months old. On a number of occasions, the batteries have died while the van is plugged into mains power. Usually, the only thing running off the 12 volt DC power when this happens, is the fridge. Turning the fridge off and rebooting the mains power usually fixes the problem. Wondering does the vans Power Controller signal the charger to start the charge process, or does the Charger monitor the batteries condition independently from the controller (Setec)? Thank you ....
